    Dust Extraction Question

The problem with axminster qc is that you are the one who has to do it and ask for a replacement. Galling enough without recalling the premium they charge you for that honour. People say they offer great customer service but it's a bloody hassle having to send things back because they don't...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Ah yeah. You could just omit the roofed walk through but have it quietly planned for later. Realistically it would be useful to have one room for maybe wood storage and one for actual work, or use one as a finishing room or something.

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Needing building control would significantly add to the costs involved. If you've got the money then go for it. 30m2 is quite substantial. Ive got a sellers style bench, a 2m x 0.8m mft, a full sized table saw, a 2.4m sheet cart as well as other crap and there's still plenty of room in there...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Ha not a motorway job, my father in law knows lots of people who have kit like that. It's parked on the farm until they need it elsewhere! That bed covered 2/3 of the sprayer, though in reality I also got the drill bits, some extra metric tape measures and this filter, so the sprayer is being...

£200 budget dust extraction for woodturning workshop

I've seen Festools with cyclones and small ducting for small tools, works fine. Just not as the heart of a large machine system as it just doesn't have the air volume. I'd say look for 2hp, so 1500w as a baseline. Naturally that drives up the cost. Something else to consider is that the...

    Plywood for tool wall

I've got some stuff up on cleats with specially designed holders. The rest is in 450mm bar magnets. Covers most of my stuff. I can't imagine a scenario where any regular handheld tool couldn't be held up with 12mm shuttering ply. Let alone hardwood ply.

£200 budget dust extraction for woodturning workshop

Not sure how active these guys are now as its a 10 year old thread. My advice would be buy a larger extractor than the ones you are a looking at 550w and 745w respectively could feel a bit limited if you are thinking of ducting it in. At that size they really just want to be fixed directly to...

DBT85s Workshop - Moved in and now time to fit it out

Well after being busy sorting out that loft bed for a friend (and getting paid for the honour) it's been busy enough at home. We had a digger on site for some work on the pond so father in law sent him my way to dig a chuffing enormous trench for the runoff from the roof. This feeds into...

Possibly the best table saw in the world!

Ahh the F3. It's on the list.

Moving 18mm sheets without killing myself

I do this if I don't have help as I've got to go 30m across garden. Need to make me an off road powered dolly! Though I have a probable job lined up where I'll order from a different place that will cut it down to a cut list rather than me trying to do it all. Much easier to handle.

    Just use the blade guard!

On this alone, I'd say depending on that you are routing a table is safer than doing it handheld. You can use all manner of things to help prevent your digits getting near the bit, and the bit isn't going anywhere other than round and round. If you're doing it with a palm router instead, it's...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Ha. They wanted to get a coat up but only had a few hours the day before as they only just moved in.

Single loft bed for a friends eldest. Before you ask, I just put it where I was told 😂. All just redwood pine. All made on site rather than in my workshop as the design was fluid. Routing the houings for the stairs was fun, as was working out how to space the stairs properly with my framing...

    Random- how many sockets?

I've got probably 18 doubles in my 5x7m workshop. Just means I never have to faff around moving things to get to a socket.

    Dust Extraction Question

I thought I saw Peter using it with a HVLP, but I admit I don't watch all of his videos. One option with HPLV systems would be to Dyson it and use several 50mm cyclones. The smaller diameter of the cyclone helps keep particle speed up in systems with lower airflow which in turn helps it stick...

    Dust Extraction Question

The cyclone will probably work, it just won't work as well as it could because the NVD 750 is a HPLV extractor (much suck, less volume of air) as opposed to a HVLP (less suck, large volume of air). Your machine has a claimed 5000l/m (300m3/hr). The type of machine they claim that cyclone is for...

I finally nailed a router to a board. Why didn't I do this sooner?

Skis? Ahh its only redwood pine and only boards cut to length, nothing fancy.

I finally nailed a router to a board. Why didn't I do this sooner?

So a job for a friend came up and it has meant adding a nice edge to probably 20m of board. It was a prospect that finally nudged me to spend the time to secure my refurbished Erbauer 2100w soft start router (£60 - Ebay) to a bit of birch ply that was laying around in the workshop (was an old...

    Recording of deaths UK

"In a moving piece in last Saturday’s Daily Mail" Never mind. Regarding the numbers. If I get covid today and in 27 days die by piano, I died with covid. I have no idea if I would get counted into the statistic or not. I'd rather not find out. I probably didn't die OF covid. There are however...

Advice on using an MFT to cut full sheets

A moulded strip? If I'm honest Mike, if you don't want to see any joints then foil backed plasterboard it and go that way. The horizontal joint being covered with the conduit works fine so long as you want them at that height, but I'm not sure about a moulded strip for the verticals. Not even...
