I hoped this day would never come - loosing my workshop.

If your business is music orientated and you are customer facing have you thought about approaching the music shops in your area? It's possible one of them has space and could benefit from having actual manufacture of instruments added to their brand / marketing. Also you could possibly benefit...

    Free saw

In fairness, there are quite a few adults who shouldn't be using the real thing, let alone children.

I hoped this day would never come - loosing my workshop.

Have a word with local businesses with large-ish premises. I've known quite a few in recent years sub-let parts of their storage / warehousing / manufacture space to smaller businesses. It's a bit of an initial nightmare in the paperwork but often there is some symbiosis to it in access to each...

    Hold onto your hats

We're just on the periphery of the main path across the South Coast of Wales. Expected to be with us around 5am, it will at the very least be a power cut day based on past experience. Good luck everyone who is impacted.

What are home alarms for, other than driving your neighbours up the wall?

I suspect the issue is more on how you interact with and your relationship with your neighbour than the alarm itself.

    Bloq - makers rent space

I'm not sure it's meant to replace business premises, I think they expect people to block book days on a pay as you go basis, not permanent location of the business. Yes they offer longer terms but I suspect the price comes down with that commitment to their overheads. Also, that £36 gives...

They must be having a right laugh

Granted you 'Never once' mentioned who were the good or bad guys (despite suggesting nefarious activity by the boogey man of the cold war against the West) but then for clarity, I also didn't state that you had declared who was good or bad either? My retort was purely to point out that those...

    Stanley No 4 1/2 restoration

That's a type 15. The 'Made in USA' and the 'Bailey' behind the knob is a type 15, 1931-1932. The lever cap is wrong for a 15, most likely from a type 12. Aside from the issues with fasteners, that's in relatively good condition for 90 years of history.

    Stanley No 4 1/2 restoration

I couldn't see the 'Made in USA' text which is why I asked. Are there any patent dates on the casting? I think your original identification may be correct as I can't see 'Bailey' on the casting either. Like I said, I maybe wrong and typically am.

As above, you need penetrating oil. Plusgas is what you want, you can get it pretty much anywhere these days from your corner shop to Screwfix. The 3-in-1 will unlikely penetrate as although it's lightweight it's not going to get into the threads as easy as proper penetrating oil. The other...

    Geiger Muller counter recomendations

Okay quick update, I purchased a GQ GMC320+. Not too expensive and gets lots of positive online reviews from users with access to much higher end equipment. Arrived yesterday and I did a check of my lenses. Thankfully the majority of them are fine with no discernible reading beyond background...

Anyone want to do a weight loss challenge?

This is pretty much me. I'm also vegan but again not a deciding factor in my opinion. The one take away from this post that I would reiterate is that it's okay to be hungry, in fact it's normal and natural.

    Geiger Muller counter recomendations

I'd not heard of coatings being radioactive, just assumed it was only the glass itself. I was aware that microscope eyepieces sometimes used Thorium which is incredibly disturbing given the ability for the radiation to penetrate the eye so much more easily than skin, that and the proximity of...

    Geiger Muller counter recomendations

Thanks for the comments and response, I've worked with organisations with radioactive materials and NDT X-ray imaging in the past (albeit many years ago now). If someone had turned up with a box of potentially active components, I think I'd have called the police. I'd expect the NHS to call the...

    Geiger Muller counter recomendations

Good point, very unlikely to peak beyond 100 uSv/h in what I want to measure so anything that measures within that range relative to background levels, i.e. an ability to get a base line. A fair few vintage lenses from the 1940's through to the 70's (and I suspect possibly the 80's) are...
