Lidl tools 3rd Feb - incl pillar drill

They are all very much of a muchness at that price point. The warranty would (in my opinion) make that a worthwhile purchase given that period will allow you to assess it's worth with some assurance. Not seen a Parkside version myself but based on the product description / images my only...

Erm....... I think that may potentially be in contention right now hence posts #1365753, #1365812 and #1365899, etc......

    Hand planes and knots

Lighter cuts and skew the plane where you can. Treat as you would end grain I suppose is the best way I can describe it. My limited experience so take with a pinch.

Split top Roubo bench on a budget

Looking forward, you won't be disappointed . I've heard nothing but positive views of them. Just interested from your perspective of moving more to hand tools. In a similar position myself, invested heavily (for me) in stationary machinery and power tools but find myself moving to the bench and...

Split top Roubo bench on a budget

Which one did you go for, Liogier or Auriou? Would be interested in your feedback if you went the Liogier route.

Split top Roubo bench on a budget

+1, got a few Auriou's last year and they are just lovely. I did contact Liogier before going the Auriou route but they didn't have stock or finish timeframes that worked for me. I ended up communicating with Noel (Liogier) himself - how often do you get that level of service from a world...

Sorry folks.. shameless Youtube channel plug ..

196 uploads over 32 months all specifically aimed and targeted as a maker channel with less than 10k subs? Something is awry there. Doesn't spark my interest but its well made , personable and diverse enough to garner more interest than 9.9k subs over that period IMO. I appreciate this is...

Sorry folks.. shameless Youtube channel plug ..

This ^, this is so often overlooked. I've had several conversations with people who have expressed utter vitriol at the idea that Youtubers use Youtube as an income source. Some people are happy to watch Youtube but few understand the work involved in some of the content on there. In some way's...

Sorry folks.. shameless Youtube channel plug ..

This is where it can sometimes go west for me. I've seen good Youtubers sell their respective souls on some occasions for the price of a few (often cheap) tools. Not always a problem admittedly but it can go horribly wrong.

    Woodworm holes in tool

I too am sceptical of freezing especially of killing off any eggs. Personally I'd use paraffin / kerosene if it warranted keeping. That said, not sure the slight adverse feeling of disposing of an infested tool because it was gifted would be enough for me to take the risk.

Sorry folks.. shameless Youtube channel plug ..

Youtube will (read - should) have a whole host of policies on this which will take the respective territories legislation into account. Don't know how transparent it is, if at all. SteveM may be able to comment further given his experience.

I too give up, your actions are dangerous and a risk to others. If you don't converse at this juncture of your channels development, especially concerning the very basic element of risk then going back to your original comment; You are not helping this argument. It doesn't need to be slick but...

Sorry folks.. shameless Youtube channel plug ..

Don't get me wrong, my original comments about safety were not aimed at your own actions, they were aimed at you sharing them, specifically on what is clearly a maker channel. There has been a huge rise in makers across the globe and this (IMO) has a net benefit to society. A lot of people...

Sorry folks.. shameless Youtube channel plug ..

If you never thought twice about that I dread to think how your table saw journey will turn out. Woodworking is dangerous especially if you bring a free hand angle grinder into the mix and even more so if using it on another freehand rotating tool. That's common sense. I suppose my point is...

Sorry folks.. shameless Youtube channel plug ..

Using a drill and a grinder simultaneously with both hands holding each tool loose as a makeshift lathe? Really? How many fingers have you got (today)? If you are going to be reckless, play to that in your content but don't make it look like day-to-day woodworking in case someone thinks it is...

    Drill presses - the sequel

You won't have any problems. Do a search on youtube on how to remove and reseat, check a few before proceeding to make sure you are getting the right advice if that makes sense. If you don't have the taper release metal part, they are easy to make with a piece of scrap.

    Drill presses - the sequel

In terms of fettling; This will be obvious if the drill doesn't perform as it should. Check the run out with the quill seated and at full extension to check the quill tube. Most drills will have some means to adjust this via grub screws set on the side. Take out the chuck and check for any...

    can you identify this wood?

I agree, that top unstained image would suggest a better wood but I'd be surprised if this is the case. I'd guess southern pine. Do a search on Etsy for memory box, loads on there with more images and options.
