Low-ish cost Router Plate with lift

Personally I would bite the bullet and save your pennies for a proper router plate and lift mechanism. I use a UJK lift and router in a cast table saw extension and a separate Incra table with incra plate / Triton setup. The dedicated lift mechanism is the way to go as even the Incra plate /...

    carroll tools drum sander

Strangely been looking today at some Carroll drums for my spindle moulder. I agree with the comments up there ^ and would think there is a demand to reintroduce the name onto the market. If you go on any woodworking forum in any country in the world and ask which is the best sanding drum to get...

Recommend new table saw fence or mods

That's a really good price for a rail and fence. Appreciate it's a £60 appliance but that's always going to be a good starting point if you needed to make any mods beyond it's own function and limitations. I'd be interested in your opinions on it after some more use.

New invention circular saw kick back

Must admit never heard of him before now, but clearly his subscriber base is huge. Not sure circular saw kickback isn't a problem that has the luxury of not needing other solutions though. If you look at the accident stats for handheld circulars, this has some merit. The reality is people (even...

New invention circular saw kick back

I think the point of this though is that it detects the plane (i.e. 3D coordinates) of the tool in combination with mechanical binding / rpm to determine a dangerous situation to make sure it's safe and useable. There is an element of machine learning to minimise false braking which in itself...

Where to get joinery grade wood in South Wales

Hi topchippyles, looking for some lengths to make 3-4 (sash) external doors so oak is probably the better contender. Would be good to know what yo have in terms of length/width and price for all three timbers though for now and other projects. Where is your timber based?

Where to get joinery grade wood in South Wales

Yeah, found this out today from someone else as well. They suggested asking Jewson if I could trawl through the piles. Oh well....I will look into Chadzy. Thanks

New invention circular saw kick back

That's actually quite clever and although the tech and suggested application has been implemented before this if it takes a Youtuber and his mate to get tool makers to explore more safety options I'm all for that. I'm also failing to see the partnership here, seems the software guy has done all...

    The Woodworking Centre

There are a few limited companies listed under that same address using the same telephone number on the website itself. Not an issue as such but probably worth calling before ordering as mentioned below. They sell Axcaliber blades which probably means you can contact Brimarc to check them out...

Where to get joinery grade wood in South Wales

Thanks both Never thought to try Timberman, not too far from me either and I'm often going through Bronwydd. I've tried to avoid Jewson to date as I used them a few years back for construction lumber and kept getting burnt with quality. I will drop in next time I'm in the area and give that...

    Plane recommendation for beginner

At that price point it is likely whatever you buy is going to need some work to make it work. As others have said, avoid cheap planes, yes you can buy more for the same money but everyone will be a paperweight and mock you when you look at it. the Stanley premium no 4 looks alright to me but it...

Where to get joinery grade wood in South Wales

As the title suggests. Any recommendations for joinery grade wood in South Wales (preferably South West)? My stock is now dwindling and I have some external doors to bang out. I've used a few suppliers in the past but wanting to hear of new ones (whilst not naming others - if that makes...

Recommendation of Oberg file for wood

As the title says, just sharing a recent find I made. Purchased an Oberg cut file recently (for little money) and this has quickly become my go to file for shaping wood. I went with a Bahco 1-106-10-1-0 (250mm version) and have to say this is just lovely to use. It simply doesn't clog, ever...

    CBN wheels

I agree D_W, risk is all relative to the situation and individual assessment. I would say however that the risk associated to dust is not necessarily proportional to the quantity of dust itself. The risk is in the individual user and their comparative susceptibility to dust, i.e. not everyone...

Festool or Makita? Which router to go for?

I have all three of those proposed routers, the Makita RT0700, the Festool 1010 and the 1400 so can comment on those in comparison. The 1400 is great but in my experience a little top heavy due to the ergonomics and geometry of the offset handle. It also sometimes makes plunge cuts a little...

    CBN wheels

Agree that the quantities of boron nitride likely pose no major risk however it's one of those metals that once you get it in your system it's there for the long haul. With the exotic alloys now used in some tool steels I'm just a little cautious myself. I noticed one day the sheer volume and...

    CBN wheels

This is often overlooked and ignored in terms of CBN's. They create different issues to the usual abrasives via their inherent properties. As they run cooler, the metal is not being 'sparked off' but simply pushed into the air. Additionally as they have almost zero chance of disintegrating...
