Stanton F400 Kiln - Free To A Good Home

Just a quick note on this, I've moved a few kilns (wife is a ceramicist) and one note of caution; make sure the kiln is kept upright especially when transporting. You can do a lot of damage if you rest it on its side. I'll ask Mrs Shed if she is interested should you need a backup for someone...

Steam / relax drying kilns - Sauno

I've read a fair bit on the solar kilns and they seem to be effective but timescales are still quite significant whereas the Sauno has a more efficient turnaround. I'm due to plank a quantity of timber this year and was looking at options. The Sauno seems to be some sort of black art - there is...

    Erm? Sauno not Sauna.

 that's a very fair point. I'll be standing in the corner.....

Steam / relax drying kilns - Sauno

Looking to get a Sauno and build a small kiln. Finding info on how it works seems very sparse. Logosol themselves don't say much and the manual says more about the styrene kiln structure than the unit itself. Are Sauno the only one in this game at that price point and is there a DIY approach to...

    How square is your square

Found they have a web page as well; http://www.jingdiao.com/en/ seems they do a line of high end 5 axis and CNC machining centres. I work with a fair number of UK manufacturing firms that have over the years farmed out elements of their production to the far east, predominantly China. In recent...

    Mobile workbenches

It is the option of castors that does it for me in addition to the lever design. My floor is semi-rigid plastic tiles and wider castors work better whereas the footmaster units are fairly narrow which is awkward with heavier kit.

    Mobile workbenches

I did wonder if you made them, got me a decent lathe and I'm going to have a go. That is simple, functional and elegant, thanks for sharing.

That was my assumption but wasn't too sure at first, thanks for the clarity Rorschach (I think). The irony and anger is strong in this thread. As you were.

    Accurate angles

I agree with your comments dzj but do think tool maintenance and learning to use it are connected from the get go. Anyone using a plane for any reasonable length of time is going to have to sharpen it fairly soon. There are cheap routes to start basic sharpening and I've even seen people...

    Mobile workbenches

Nice simple and effective idea. I've used the footmaster levelling castors in the past on benches and some machine stands. Similar idea other than a dial as opposed to a lever. I actually prefer this option as it allows you to have same say in the type of wheel and importantly the width.

I thought they were sold in their entirety to that Chinese company? Not all bad as they appear to be a fairly involved manufacturer and have introduced new design into the industry themselves.

I believe your dimensions are 156 x 16.3 (may be wrong) but if not; UK £25 1 pair https://www.solenttools.co.uk/planer-bl ... 1280j.html Ebay (China) £40 for 5 pairs https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5Pairs-HSS-t ... SwQH5b3aL2 Don't know how this compares to Alibaba. Apologies if this is a red...

Just had a look - https://www.vespertools.com.au/vesper-s ... y-squares/  gorgeous but have to agree the price is just as startling. Edit: They do offer 10% of for anyone who can evidence they are a student of a recognised woodworking school worldwide. Prices aside, nice to see tool...

    Accurate angles

Something to be said for cleaning up an old but better plane and understanding how it works, goes together, sharpens up, etc and besides some sellers of old planes do most of that for you. Chances are with a new plane of similar low price (and this is a driver for the OP) they may very likely...

If cost is a driver, try looking for a local woodworking / evening class to develop your skills and decide what equipment works for you before committing further. Maybe put a call out on here for someone in your area to show you their setup and help /advise for an hour. Appreciate I'm suggesting...

Festool or Makita? Which router to go for?

That's really nifty and the locking action looks very positive. My Festool cords have actually held up over time but I'm aware some people on the FOG have had issues needing to replace them over time. Those look a little more robust to me. Bear in mind that kettle (euro) mains plugs and sockets...

That's handy to know, been looking for somewhere that do custom euro profile cutters and given their prices they are worth speaking to. Thank you for that.
