    Drill press replacement

I have to admit, all my pillar drills are heavy duty and robust metal working drills for that very reason. As noted up there ^, you can get decent drilling machines such as the ones mentioned. I actually have a Chester D32 which is absolutely solid with a very large T-table. This works better...

    Drill press replacement

Do you mean for woodworking specifically? Cons are probably weight of moving the machine initially and any future requirement but I suppose that depends on what size you are looking at. I have several machines from a Bridgeport to a Weiss 30 and don't relish moving any of them. It's a bit...

    Mould growth in garage?

A spray bottle with very diluted bleach will remove the mould that is there, give it a light spray and leave for an hour or two. Make sure there is plenty of ventilation when you do it and wear the appropriate face mask / ventilator - you do not want bleach in your throat, airways or lungs. As...

    Cordless drill

Depends on the work you are doing really and what your definition of reasonably priced is. The previous suggestion up there about a pillar drill and / or corded probably makes a lot of sense for forstner and hole saws but dependent on what work you do. There is unlikely to be a conclusive...

    Vise With Adjustable Angle Jaws

To be fair the Emmert K1 clone is 10 times the vice comparative to the parrot and the parrot doesn't taper hence the suggestion of the K1. Also the K1 can be positioned with the jaws above the bench.

    Vise With Adjustable Angle Jaws

You need an Emmert pattern makers vice or more likely a K1 clone of one; Pattern Maker's Vice I have a K1 clone fitted to a solid heavy bench and they are possibly the most versatile vice you will ever own. I think I got mine from Fine-Tools (Dieter Schmid's) which is probably identical to the...

    internal height with pent roof

Assuming the end design is a pent (with the lower eaves side being the back wall) then placing benches, desks, utilities, etc along that lower ceiling edge / wall would reduce the lower height restrictions by at least 600mm into the floorspace - if that makes sense?

    Sold Festool SYS3-HWZ + FS-SYS/2 kits

Message sent on the SYS3-HWZ although I suspect I sent it via conversation as opposed to pm. Will make sense on your profile info. Interested in the SYS3-HWZ basically.

    internal height with pent roof

+1. The architects design shows a flat roof unless of course the front facias hide the slope.

    Securing your workshop

Given the current situation in Wales with pet theft they will likely take the dog as well as the tools.

    internal height with pent roof

I just noticed your signature / location and I'm guessing you do need planning hence the submission. As above, your architect's plans should give you an idea or at the very least they should be able to advise. Is the 2.5m the upper eaves height? I suspect most people (myself included) assumed...

    internal height with pent roof

Do bear in mind that eaves height is the theoretical line the wall will hit on the upper surface of the roof and not the internal height. Your question is also dependent upon the actual depth / thickness of the roof, the trusses, any subsequent insulation and any boarding out - not to mention...

    Advice

It's essentially solvent applied paraffin wax. It's handy if you need to get the protection into tight spaces but for easily accessible surfaces like hand plane parts then light machine oil will suffice. T9 is a dry lubricant so also suitable for mechanical motion areas which are likely to...

Cast iron top or not ???

As above, this is not a fair comparison, a cast top compared to a site saw sheet metal top is different machines for different uses. Also as already noted, the Metabo is a lot lower (FFX do them for around £280). I'd be looking at improving your current saw by looking at something in the...

    Dewalt customer service???

Not sure it's a lack of regard, more of positioning within the marketplace, associated production quantities and price point of the product itself. If a company is churning out many thousands of low to mid priced product then profit and loss is less able to cater for after-sales care that...

    Dewalt customer service???

This kind of emphasises the differing costs across vendors. The very few times I've had to call Festool about an issue, I've been dealt with immediately or had the relevant expert call me within two hours. Every time the issue has been resolved satisfactorily. I know there are people who think...

    Safety Goggles

I used to use only Bolle but switched to Uvex recently as they don't (in my opinion) fog as easily or as much. Another bit of advice; If you drop into any motorcycle shop they will sell a small bottle of anti-fog for helmet visors. This can also help in keeping the inside of the goggles...

    Pillar drill

Agree with the comments up there, £200 is more about right but that's an easy comment to make without seeing it. If the rust is surface only and the quill is sound then going over £200 slightly is not a major folly. Prices are all over the place, I picked one up locally late last year for £60 in...
