    Just use the blade guard!

Personally and certainly based on some of the responses to this thread I think the problem is ultimately down to attitude and mentality. Simply put, people cannot rationalise away the reality of accidents occurring by deciding they are not the sort of people to have them. There also seems to be...

    Clifton block plane price

Most of my premium planes are LN and only recently did I dip a toe in the Clifton plane pool. It wasn't necessarily by direct choice but I received a 4 1/2 Smoother as a gift and and I'll be in two minds the next time I buy premium on which tool maker to go with. I've been eying up the Clifton...

Logging On - From Ash to Ashes (eventually)

Had a large Ash taken down myself about two to three months back, same approach in that the smaller limbs are destined for firewood and longer trunk body parts will be milled down. I have a Woodland Mills 130 so can fortunately do the milling myself. Have another six very large trees to come...

Moving 18mm sheets without killing myself

It's always going to be a strain if you are still lifting without mechanised assistance but anything that gives an advantage is better than none. Also plasterboard is always going to be fragile if the edges get caught anyhow. There are other lifters and variants of the cheap plastic ones as...

Moving 18mm sheets without killing myself

At the very least get hold of a sheet / plaster board lifter. The Roughneck plastic one will do the job and is usually under a tenner. There are going to be times where you need to move sheets without the ability to dolly it. Makes a difference in that circumstance at least.

    Just use the blade guard!

I picked up on that little nugget as well. To already have that thought process in mind says loads about his potential as a parent.

    Just use the blade guard!

Even super cautious people can be careless and do moronic things, I know I'm not immune to it and can give most careless morons a run for their money on a bad day. This is not a case of more safety features for those that need it, it's the design of the saw regardless of how careful people think...

It's the same manual S&S point to when you try to get the iTech version from their site. Same model number of 01446.

    Replacement iron for Stanley No.8

https://www.classichandtools.com/acatalog/Hock-Blades-for-Bench-Planes-BP-BPA.html#SID=1498 Give these guys a call. They will probably offer advice before you commit to the purchase. I'm sure you are contravening some form of international law if you were to take a file to a Type 6, No. 8.

    Just use the blade guard!

Yeah, I winced when I bought them despite getting them at a vastly reduced priced at the time. I still use (home made) push sticks with the Jessem guides, not found anything that works as well in moving the wood through the blade whilst keeping my digits away from the whole process.

    Replacement iron for Stanley No.8

Have you looked at Japanese laminated blades, they tend to be under 2.5mm and are superb replacements. Edit: Scratch that, I can't find them in 2 5/8" size anywhere. However these may fit the bill; RON HOCK Plane Blades

    Just use the blade guard!

I agree, they place your hand way to close for me. I've been using the Jessem clear cut guides for a few years now and whilst not useable for all cuts they have fit the purpose for me.

    Just use the blade guard!

In response to TRITON's post up there. This whole thread is predominantly about the inherent dangers of people who seriously risk the well-being of others by disregarding crucial safety measures and propagating that on an open public platform. Why would you then reiterate that very same risk on...

    Just use the blade guard!

"Could have had a blade guard in place" followed by "all those things are options and considerations"??? He went out of his way to remove a safety guard and even after catching two fingers directly in the blade still thinks those same safety guards are "options and considerations". I suspect...

    Buying my first bandsaw

As others have already said, buy the best and most powerful you can, if that means waiting a little longer because of funds or availability then I would still recommend that route. Of the list of four up there, I would only seriously be considering the Axi Trade 2552, it looks to have the...

    More garbage from China

As pointed out already, it's just a function of sales cost and target market. If you buy a hobby class, low cost machine built to a price point with low cost labour then what is going to land on delivery is a hobby class, low cost machine built to a price point with low cost labour. Always gets...

    Your opinion about logos.

If you expect a low volume of sales which in itself would reflect low profit margins (if indeed any) then what motivates you to do it. This is not meant to be a confrontational query, I'm genuinely interested and curious in the mindset of designing and building tools within that framework...

    Pocket jig opinions

Yeah they stopped production a while back, not sure why as most of the reviews really rated it quite highly. The price was quite high so maybe it just didn't sell in enough unit quantities.

    Pocket jig opinions

I tend to agree, Kreg kit fits the bill in being about the right price for the level of quality and target market but at the end of the day they are mostly plastic tools. The Porter Cable Quikjig always looked like the best of both worlds to me, metal construction where it counts and...
