Anyone used Ohishi and/or king 10k stones?

All my water stones are Ohishi, I have about five or six with the 10k being my highest grit. I bought them as they don't need soaking and just need a light spray before use. The very low grits require soaking but the only low grit I have is the 220 and I tend to use diamond plates at that level...

Decent tap and die set recomendations...

+1 for Presto, also make sure you have a good cutting fluid. It will make all the difference.

    12" blade table saw wanted

Unfortunately, the dado / tenon option on Hammers is one of those features installed at point of purchase and can't be retrofitted, much like the scoring blade. Ask me how I know :(

    Norton Combo Oil Stone

As above, 3in1 type light machine oil or a good mineral oil for oil stones. Pharmaceutical grade 100% mineral oil will generally be the better option if in doubt about the percentage claims. In reality, you don't actually use a lot so whatever is convenient. If you are using oil for sharpening...

    12" blade table saw wanted

The iTech saws are effectively SIP saw's with different colours, all much of a muchness. I would be looking at something like a Hammer K3 personally, they come up occasionally on the usual Internet auction sites and of course are still available new direct from Felder. The usual suspects of...

    Best way to store planes?

Of course, just noticed the position of the handle. Doh.... No. 9's have sky rocketed in the last 12 months, you will probably get better returns on that than high risk stocks. Nice setup either way. Can I ask why you went the Veritas route for shoulder planes but pretty much Lie Nielsen for...

    Best way to store planes?

That's a good use of space there and nice collection of tools. I notice you're a lefty (that or you got the 51 in a sale ;) ).

    Plumbing help - shower waste

It threw me as well when I installed mine, I thought I was missing parts but no, as above they are like this now.

    Clamp recommendations

I didn't think you were pushing Rutlands beyond Bessey, I was just adding my own experience comparative to my use of many different types of clamps. I would be genuinely interested how your Rutlands clamps hold up over the longer term and your opinion on buying more after that use.

    Clamp recommendations

They just apply pressure across the parallel faces of the clamping surfaces and this is often larger and longer than other styles of clamps whilst maintaining that parallel aspect relative to the clamp and material. In reality you could probably achieve the same result with other clamps and...

I too returned after a brief leave, I'd figured there had been an exodus but didn't realise there had been an exile as well.

Anyone have a good tool belt for general carpentry?

As with some others in this thread, I have not got on with tool belts. The last time I needed the use of a tool belt I just used a separate belt hammer loop, a tape measure pouch and a similar belt held pouch for fixings. Lot more flexible as you can distribute weight and choose position on your...

    Clamp recommendations

Have to agree with the two suggestions above that Irwin are a good source as well. Not sure I see the sash clamp being a direct comparison to a parallel clamp but I guess that depends on the thickness of the material being clamped. I have had really good experiences with their sash, quik-grip...

    Clamp recommendations

Be aware that a quad pack of Bessey 600's is around £186.00. I have no doubt the Rutland clamps are good, fit for purpose and do the job but they will be sourced and rebadged and ultimately they want to be Bessey clamps when they grow up. From experience I'd stump up the £65 difference for the...

    Common Sense Deceased

I agree, I think your perspective might be a little broader if you hadn't lived in the same part of London for the last 34 years. You are correct of course, your views are no less valid but if you make comments that people think are unjustified they are going to retort, but that's just our valid...

    Gardening multi tools

I suspect a Hori Hori knife would make the better gift, although get one with a leather holster, not the canvas. Get a sheathed Hori Hori and a tool roll and then you're all set for gift ideas for Xmas and the next Birthday with additional tools to add to the roll.

    Common Sense Deceased

You posted that retort three posts after posting this yourself, using your own stats to suggest others are confused. Given the suggestion of it not helping the case for an overstated reliance is your statement I guess it doesn't, none whatsoever. Immigration is generally a net gain...

Ethnic grouping does not define immigration status though does it? Not unless that's the extent of the understanding of what an immigrant is and the assumption that to be British is to be white or indeed to be white is to be British ;)
