    WD40

There is no silicone in WD-40, it's predominantly naphtha. It will be fine to clean off the protective gunk from a new tool but not exactly the best for a protective layer as almost all of it evaporates. Any good paste wax will do the job of protecting ferrous surfaces. I use Liberons...

    Replacement Drive

The current offering from Hikoki looks half decent. Other than I'd be tempted to a small Metabo or Bosch drill / driver. Metabo used to do kits of screwdrivers with different driver heads, like 90 degree or offset which are incredibly useful. Makita do a variant of the Hikoki design type or...

    1/ 4" trimmer router question

I don't have a Katsu either (although I have the Makita) but the comparison reviews seem to suggest it is unlikely the two units are sourced form the same manufacturer given the subtle difference in design and overall quality. This would suggest different tooling and different manufacture processes.

    1/ 4" trimmer router question

Where do people sit on the fact that the Katsu (and variants of it) is pretty much a direct copy of the Makita RT0700C? I appreciate there are subtle differences such as position of speed controls, plastic mouldings and the diecast but let's be honest, at first glance it's the same tool. I'm...

    Lie Nielsen Planes

Their prices have been quite consistent through the years so here's hoping. I've noticed some supplies have started to trickle back into stock in the UK recently. Picked up a rebate block and shoulder plane in the last few weeks which had been on my want list for the last year.

    Sedgwick or axminster?

The Incra fence is a quality tool but you may want to do a bit more research and watch the Incra setup videos before pushing the button. Firstly, given you are exploring the Incra TS fence because of space you need to be aware that the Incra itself is very space hungry in that the positioner...

    Should you speak the truth?

I suspect there is a lot in this comment. It probably accounts for the 'mate's' subsequent reaction in that he knows what he did is wrong and maintaining contact with the OP will just perpetuate that in the immediate term. As for the initial question of speaking truth or not? It's all relative...

The reality is far from simple jealousy and to label it as such is woefully lacking in understanding and societal empathy.

    Long Straight Edge options?

A laser line will also aid in checking the surface relative to itself. I don't mean self-levelling lasers just a laser line used across the bench to pick up on irregularities across it's length. It's not a single solution but will help in seeing those areas quickly. Even the cheap ones are good...

Ash wood - suitability for outdoor projects (and what if it has dieback?)

I'd plank it, store / air dry it over the coming years and sell it at a high premium due to a lack of supply within that future market.

Hello from a new member - nice to be here!

Good luck with the venture and welcome to the forum. Have a look at the Yeti CNC, not cheaper but a viable option to look at comparative to the Origin. It is not as space hungry as most CNC in that class and potentially more flexible than the Origin for large pieces.

    Very sad news

WOW, a lot to unpack from those winning words. Can I suggest you take up the Banjo as a way of self-improvement? Just people expressing indifference, indifference to a man born into royalty, married into further royalty who lived most of his life in a palace and died at the age of 99 in a castle.

    Bicycles

An Orbea Gain and a Scott Speedster SE for me and a Bianchi E-Spillo for Mrs Shed. Looking to get an Argon 18 Gallium in the summer. I wonder if the percentage of forum members who are cyclists is average or otherwise in terms of the general public.
