    Stuck plane blade

For future reference, Plusgas or a similar penetrating oil is a better option than WD40 to loosen blades and other metal parts. It will work faster and be more efficient at getting where it needs to be. Also kerosene is a good option as it will soften any wood resins if they are present and the...

    LED lighting for workshop

I'm in the middle of a new workshop build, this is relatively small building of 8'x16' with a stud framework (now up) and will be insulated and clad in corrugated sheet metal. I already have a much larger building and will be building another large building after this current one. The reason for...

    Help identifying a thread type?

I suspect the 1/2" BSF is the likely culprit. You could always pop into a local fasteners supplier and get them to check and supply the appropriate nut at the same time.

    5 1/2 plane???

That's a fair point. Surface rust just isn't an issue for me and in some cases it shows that the seller (assuming it's a distant purchase) hasn't messed around with it or sanded it down for a shiny sale I suppose.

Anyone experienced with extra large workshop builds in a UK garden?

That's at least 47% of the rear curtilage. 3000 sq ft is not a large home workshop, that's a commercial venture. As others have pointed out this is irresponsible in the context of the neighbours (assuming there are any of course) and probably needs something more commercial than domestic in...

    5 1/2 plane???

By all means if you are gifted a plane with pitting or it has sentimental value then no problem, but if you are buying one why would you purposefully hand over cash for something that has suffered more than surface rust when there are loads of them to choose from. My point is the market is...

    5 1/2 plane???

You will never get a consensus on which is best. Both Record and Stanley planes are fit for purpose however they both also offer their fair share of decent tools and horrors in equal measure. The difference of widths is probably dictated more about your buying options, sheer luck and budget. As...

Decent 200cm to 240cm spirit level

Thanks for that, it was the ergonomics that partly made me look at these. I had a few concerns in the light gauge but your comment of it feelong solid is good to know.

Decent 200cm to 240cm spirit level

Looking for a decent 200cm to 240cm spirit level. Tempted by the Stabila R-Type but open to suggestions especially if anyone can comment on the digital options out there. Any recommendations? Anyone use levels to this size and are there any gotchas in the longer lengths? I'm using them to...

    Small Compressor

I grabbed an Hyundai, in fact this one from this seller late last year. It's been faultless and never misses a beat. If you browse their products they some times pop up a small window offering you to make an offer on their list price (assuming you don't block their pop ups of course. I used this...

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

It's simply the price of prosumer / pro kit at that part of the spectrum of tool supply is all. If you can't justify the price then you're just not in that target market. It's really no different to an £5k ebike in a market of differing costs. Festool is generally not in the category of a...

Domino Jointers Are they really worth it, or just a gimic

To be fair, it's just a threaded adapter and the idea itself had several origins before Seneca marketed theirs. That said, the Seneca products are well made and they are more invested in the FOG community.

    Tracks, Railsquares and Tracksaws

I have a set of the TSO connectors, picked them up a while back for a little over £50 so not as eye watering at the time. They work incredibly well and would happily replace them if I needed to. Nice DIY parallel guides, have to admit I toyed with making my own from alloy but at the time I was...

    Tracks, Railsquares and Tracksaws

Not sure I would pitch the two options of rail square and MFT type top as competitive tools. Whilst they can do similar cuts they are essentially different tools for different cuts relevant to material size more than anything. I agree with the comments on Festool style rails being a pain to...

You need good dust extraction not compressed air to blow the dust around. A Henry Hoover with a HEPA filter will do the job.

    Need pricing advice

Last sold prices on Ebay show the table and router typically go for around £120+ each and the belt sander around £75+ if that helps.
