    Marmite

To be fair, MDF is a throwback to the 60's and is in dire need of being replaced with a suitable modern product alternative.

Talking myself out of buying premium tools

It's not a blind recommendation though is it? These recommendations come with experience. Admittedly a good bailey pattern older plane is a viable alternative to any offering from LN but the operative word in that statement is the phrase 'good'; not something assured to the same level of the QA...

Talking myself out of buying premium tools

If it wasn't Paul Sellers then someone else would fill that slot in terms of exposure on Youtube. The same is true across the board of many industries and hobbies. I used to be able to pick up old MIR, Jupiter and Helios lenses, even Contax Zeiss for decent amounts before the onslaught of...

Talking myself out of buying premium tools

The ultimate answer will always come down to buying the best tools that are fit for purpose relevant to you and your situation. I don't agree with the idea that more expensive tools will not fill a skill deficit as better tools will enable skills to improve. I appreciate that more expensive...

    Table saw won’t switch on

The NVR mag switches are prone to go faulty occasionally, it would explain why you hear a click but no power seems to be getting through to the motor. https://www.metabo-service.com/manuals/1151615305_en_4200_Sx_Ax_en_%20PK%20200.pdf Page 10 refers to the under voltage relay pointed out by Ozi

Terms and Conditions for buying car tyres

I'm not sure it's illegal as such, not advised but not illegal to my knowledge. That said, I'm aware of MOT stations failing some vehicles because of it, IIRC there was a thread on a Landy forum some time back where this had happened and the vehicle owner demanded to see the legislation which...

    Milling Machine DRO

I'm surprised if 1.2kg of bagged sand is adding damping to the extent that you can notice the difference. I would have thought an epoxy pour would be more effective. Interested in your feedback on this over time. I've looked at adding damping to mine but not sure I can be bothered with epoxy...

    Milling Machine DRO

Nice update. I came close to buying a Seig (X3) several times but the reported online issues of vibration put me off. I eventually went for a WMD30 type machine (although I suspect it is actually a Weiss). I fitted an Easson ES, similar to this but with an extra Z encoder added which is summed...

    Fed up sharpening pencils

Get a batch of decent Staedtler Norris pencils and a metal bench mounted helix sharpener or A smaller batch of Pentel graphgear's. Either option or both will be a vast improvement.

Anyone know the real world difference between classes of MOT

Yeah I know a few van drivers who still don't understand the speed limit of their vehicles.

Anyone know the real world difference between classes of MOT

Thank you Droogs, it seem to be just a reference to MOT checks but din't understand if that translated into further responsibilities on maintenance. Thanks again, appreciated.

Anyone know the real world difference between classes of MOT

Looking to get a new service vehicle (well new to me). The issue that may or may not be an issue is I have two options of; 1. Sub 3,000kg design gross weight (MOT 4) 2. 3,000 to 3,500kg design gross weight (MOT 7) Lots of info on the T'interweb but little about the full implications in terms...

    An idea to prototype/manufacture

Kind of related but a little tangential, there is a huge rise in random patent challenges going on these days. There are multiple individuals / organisations that randomly challenge patent owners (companies generally) for the right to their own legally established IP with spurious accusations...

    An idea to prototype/manufacture

Try speaking to your local business support and pitch the same level of details above. Tell them you specifically require innovation support. Make sure this is local or central government associated (not consultants at this stage) and take a steer from that. Depending on where you are in the...

Span between brackets for birch ply shelf

If there are multiple shelves and the relative proximity of them is close together you could use that to your advantage and do away with traditional brackets, i.e. use interconnected vertical sheet taking advantage of the full length of the studs.

    Festool TKS 80

I looked at getting a TKS80 earlier this year. I was actually looking at a Dewalt 7492 initially but ended up straying into Festool territory fairly quickly. I'm at the end stage of my own house build in final trim / fit out and really could not be bothered to keep going back into the workshop...

    Free trade deal with Australia

It will mean the square root of sod all in terms of benefit to the UK. We don't have the economic critical mass of the EU to negotiate our way out of a wet paper bag these days. This deal will be all smoke and mirrors with no substance and will likely bite us in ways the idiots who organised it...
