Advice on Ebay, PayPal and collection

Yeah, I've gone through the T&C's for Ebay protection, it does state that third party collection of a 'collect only' item is not covered. To be fair, navigating Ebay details and actually contacting them has improved a ton since the last time I tried to get info out of them.

Advice on Ebay, PayPal and collection

You're telling me. I communicated with Ebay direct which was way easier than it has ever been IMO. If I pay through Ebay using a preferred option (PayPal included) then on checkout I get the collection address. The collection time is agreed between both parties before payment which has already...

Advice on Ebay, PayPal and collection

This is more confusing now, it seems PayPal won't offer buyer protection if payment is made prior to collection but Ebay will cover buyer protection even if you use PayPal. I think they use a QR code scan to confirm collection after which the seller gets paid. Apologies if I missed that in the...

On that basis, a Dobsonian is just perfect as it's within budget, has a simple design and will be great for viewing the sky with friends: https://www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/skywatcher-skyliner-200p-dobsonian-telescope.html...

Thanks for that, the feedback is appreciated. I do try to remember to curtail the aperture appeal as it's all to easy to convince myself to go up one size, it's only a little more which then repeats itself to the next size again. I do like the finish WO puts to the end product. You have a nice...

Advice on Ebay, PayPal and collection

Thank you everyone, as above I've insisted that payment (cash or paypal) is to happen at point of collection. The seller has been cool up until now and besides this protects us both.

Would be interested in your opinion on this, very tempted by the 61and the 73. Not on my list yet but definitely a contender. Would also like to see that if possible, I started a DIY truss unit with a 6" but it's yet to be finished. Have you seen the videos of John Dobson making the mirrors...

    Telescopes

The open frames are often (well in this price bracket anyhow) flex tubes in that they compact down for portability. Some of the more expensive ones, typically the 10-16" and above scopes use a truss frame for cost, strength, rigidity, weight and portability. Either way the larger ones often come...

Advice on Ebay, PayPal and collection

Yeah, I think you're right. I double checked with PayPal T&C's, neither seller nor buyer are protected in this situation. I'm going to insist on paying cash or paypal at point of collection.

I'm early into astronomy, I'm in the middle of setting up a Pulsar Dome and a separate Roll On Roll Off roof metal shed. I suspect rwillett has pretty much covered it all. Things I would add from my own experience; 1. I agree with starting small and although you already have access to a £150...

Advice on Ebay, PayPal and collection

Yeah, the seller is selling the item for a friend with no Ebay (it all checks out given what is being sold) and again no alarm bells as such. The Ebay seller is asking for payment before they pass on the collection address and the contact details of the person with the goods. I suppose my...

Advice on Ebay, PayPal and collection

Not used Ebay for a while and aware that they have had an ongoing spat with PayPal. Anyhow I have just purchased something large in size (requires collecting) for around <£500 and the seller has asked for PayPal payment before collection (and before giving me the address). Does PayPal protection...

    Sold Bandsaw in Aberystwyth

Just saw this posted on FB in the Aber area. Worth a punt at that price and no it's not mine and I don't know the seller. Just seemed a potential bargain for someone. Mods, you may want to move this to tools / buying? Just figured it was a fresh ad and people may want to jump on it hence...

    Anyone built a coracle?

I'm in Carmarthenshire and there is a huge history here with coracles. Try joining an online group as there are a few self builds within them. I believe there is a FB Carmarthen coracle group that is fairly active.
