Who are the go to Cabinet Hardware Suppliers in the UK ?

I have used Hafel for many years as a cabinet maker and though retired(?), I still use them for most things for cabinet making or Architectural Ironmongery.

    Attic hoist / elevator design

In my barn I have a mezanine floor which I use for storage and I installed a 6 mtr. scaffold pole fixed at bottom and to the steel frame at the top. I bought one of the cranes that you mentioned in the original post, which has a scaffold clamp for attatching. I then modified a "Bulk builders...

    Screws for battening through multi-foil

I used this multifoils insulation a few years ago, a real pain as it is thin layers of what resembles polyester wadding used by upholsterers. The problem is that a drill picks these layers up and it neatly wraps around the drill bit and likewise the screws. Staples and nails!

    Big disc sander

I have a smaller disc sander, 200mm dia and it uses sticky back discs, which have never been a problem. It is possible that the ring is there to keep fingers out!

    Winter fuel Payments.

Rhossydd, That wasn't true for Passport office or Driving licence departments. This isn't personal, no doubt all could quote some one they knew. When most had to commute into work and wear decent clothes and possibly pay for child care all of those expenses stopped. My...

    Winter fuel Payments.

Where it really hurts is when you have a small additional pension (RN Service) on top of the state pension, this puts you only a few pounds over the limit (I know this because it is my situation) for pension credit. For those receiving pension credit it then opens up many more benefits which...

What do they call this and where might I buy one?

These needle scalers are made for metal and a friend cleaned the chassis of a horsebox very well. Most definitely a PPE requirement. Also need quite a lot of air supply.

    House building

I don't see National parks being targeted as there are already layers of rules and regulations. Developers will target surrounding areas. There was a fire a year ago which burnt down a listed hotel in Midhurst, West Sussex. This lies within the South Downs National Park and the various bodies...

Routing for an Inset induction hob

Don't agree as you are removing small amount on one face it is much easier to control.

Routing for an Inset induction hob

I would start by using a jig saw to cut out the bulk of the waste and then jigs for a router.

What do they call this and where might I buy one?

These were a 1970s contraption. I have to admit I had one. Universally condemned as the tips wear and small pieces fly off. I agree with the post that it is important to protect yourself carefully, I would use a face shield.

    House building

I find it difficult to agree with Cooper. My own experience with local authorities over the past 27 years is that they are one of the principle log jambs in the whole process. I do agree about the house builders being anything but. These companies should be forced to reveal what land they have...

    House building

This new government has pledged to build 1.5 Million new homes over the next five years. I would say that this will never happen. One, there are not enough trades people to build them and two, the requirements of planning and building control will put a huge brake on any buidling. Over the last...

    Speed Limit

The simpest way to cut speed problems would be for the Police to use "yellow cards" ie drive over the limit then you would have to sit in a layby for a specified time, thereby negating any benefit you might have by driving too fast and a fine. But that of course would need police actually on the...

    Just joined,

Welcome Mike, maybe sometime you can relate your time as a building inspector? Having all sorts of problems with our new build original Bldg. Insp. went into administration (part of a package deal warranty etc.) after three visits which then reverts to local authority. L.A Bldg.Insp. seems to...

    No Fault Evictions

I can't believe that so many forum members give Jacob his platform to spew out his "Statistics" when you will never change his red views. There is a certain state of mind that will cause harm to others due to their embeded beliefs and to completely disregard facts. No private lanlords give banks...

    Wood ID help please

More than ten years ago I purchased solid oak stair parts these are laminated but the packaging says clearly made in China. I wonder what species of oak is used there.?There would not be much benefit in using Ash as it is likely more expensive. I think Oak from China is the most likely.

    Wood id

Classic Edwardian wash stand. As Niall y says. Probably Satin Walnut or Poplar (which is softer), which was the appellation for a (then) cheap timber often stained to look like mahogany. The door looks like a framed plywood panel (animal glued laminations) which has delaminated (rippled). The...

Dark water stains on solid wood.

I agree with the above use of oxalic acid. Any chemical should be handled with care I have used oxalic for more than 45 years without any problem. Oxalic acid is found in rhubarb (maybe explains why I can't stand the stuff!).

    Anybody own a holiday let?

I would say that the negative feedback is from "real world" individuals with experience.
