1/4 inch router bit for mortises

I was talking about the diameter of the cutter not the shaft. Use the built in depth stop to gradually increase the depth of the mortice, clearing chips as you go.

1/4 inch router bit for mortises

In your circumstances I would use a small diameter router bit (6mm) and plunge cut in small steps. That would not overload a small router. Bigger bits would overload.

    Electric vehicles

Ah. Nostalgia! At sixteen (1963) learnt to ride on friend's Tiger Cub, my first own bike was a sidecar outfit with a BSA M21, 600cc single cylinder side valve (I think) bought for £15 from a work colleague who was upgrading to a Panther outfit. Yes, that could kick. In more...

    Router recommendations

That's a thought Spectric, I have one of those but have never thought of using it in that way, I think that is what is called lateral thinking!

    Router recommendations

One facinating YouTuber is Dean Dohery in Co. Donegal, Ireland. He is a portable tool repairer. Just a thought would it be worth contacting him about sources of secondhand tools. I have a load of portable tools that need mending, following his videos is encouraging me to have a go myself!

    Digitise slides

I bought an Epson 700 photo scanner around 20 years ago to scan old photos and slides(still have it!). This has a plastic slide holders to hold various sizes of slides. The scanner has two modes Flat plate scanning or scanning slides which use a backlight arrangement to illuminate the slides...

    Ebony inlay substitutes.

Boxwood inlays died black are a standard veneer item. They are normally called "Boxwood stringing". These come in all sorts of cross section sizes from around 1mm sq through to around 3mm and around 1mtr in length I think I have some in my barn. They bend quite easily as they are not brittle...

    Slipping F-clamps

I think Andrew_2 idea is the simplest. The only refinement I would make is to tap those holes and use a cheese head machine screw, drillin/tapping a hole right at the bottom of the shaft to hold the screw. My older sash cramps have a retaining machine screw at the end to stop jaws falling off.

    Screw removal from gate help.

As the above S/S screws are very soft. Where you have to drill out at a much larger size , I would use a plug cutter of the clearance size and glue a dowel or a plug in after removal. A battery drill (rather than an impact driver) with a suitable bit is a much more controlled method of driving...

Advice on hand rivit guns please to try and fix my Star Wars Prep. Cant snap stems and need way to much strenght to set on delicate prop

I agrre about aluminium rivets, though they usually have a steel pin. There are plenty of companies that keep a wider range of pop rivets. Companies that supply to the coach building trade such as Albert Jagger in Romsey, Hampshire carry specialist rivets. In addition to several hand rivet guns...

    Mdf drawers for wardrobe

S, My sympathies, I am way past retrement age too , unfortunately I too often witmessed that kind of behavior from people that promise so much and are not skilled enough to design and make what you require. I never had any fight with customers over quality, had a couple of occasions when they...

Collection Of Rare Early Woodworking Lathes

I don't think this Holtzapffel lathe should be catalogued as a wood working lathe. They were usually making ornamental metal working lathes.

    Standard woodworking glues

Profchris, As a antique furniture restorer I used hide glue almost exclusively. As you say the problem is clamping a joint. I used to use a sheet of melamine and various pieces of shaped wood fixed to it often with hot melt glue gun to enable clamping pressure at the right point.

Help me with my first ever mig welds, why do they look like Swiss cheese and will I ever improve (cry for help after being demolished on Reddit)

Ed China (of the car restoration programme) has made a Youtube video on the subject, which is very well done and explained, well worth a look. I learnt arc welding and Oxy- Acetylene back in 1977 when Mig and Tig welders were very expensive. I still have my old oil filled Oxford welder (hernia...

    What is this?

When you describe as being "lighweight" that sounds like a tiling gadget I have for marking irregular shaped tiles. This is an interconecting set of four "rulers" about 25mm wide with slots and knurled fasterners. The device can be used in many ways but it is lightweight . Mine is plastic but...

    Mdf drawers for wardrobe

My take on this is to ditch the drawers and have new ones made by a competent craftsman. Heavy duty runners will not sort the problem. When ever I made drawer boxes the sides were only 12mm thick. Carcase and drawer fronts 18mm thick. It is possible to buy off the shelf drawer boxes and no doubt...
