    Walk-in wardrobe

I would go for shallower. I have an oak wardrobe that is 550 overaall depth and have suits and coats in there without trouble. There are also slide-out hanging rails that allow clothes to sit from front to back. As I often said Hafele are my go-to supplier, mainly because of their excellent...

Removing tiles attached to plasterboard - Shower room renovation

I have used all of the above but lately have been using "foam" board" from Wickes, lightweight waterproof and easy to cut it has some kind of a mesh (glass fibre?) so great for tiling. Roger Bisby of the Skillbuilder channel is a fan of this type of board for bathrooms. What ever you do stay...

Bad buying decisions or tool regrets

Many years ago I bought a Bosch Rotozip drywall(?) Cutter 240 volt. It has very rarely come out of its box and the last time it did I had to get a new collet as the previous one had gone walkies. I actually used it more often with t.c. bits drilling/trimming ceramic tiles. Though it was not a...

    Walk-in wardrobe

I understand but applying timber edge is adding to your work. Using some kind of flush hinge takes the screws across the "grain" of the MDF. If you are using moisture resistant MDF there is on problem sealing the "end grain".

    Boiler problems.

Just been through this exact problem. Sometimes it is the top, motorised section of a three port valve and can easily be swapped, but in our case the valve body was at fault. The plumber changed it without full draining down (used a vacuum cleaner technique to partially drain down). All working...

    Walk-in wardrobe

Mjward, There are plenty of hinges that would meet your requirement. Which is essentially a fold back door. I will illustrate one below. This will actually fold through 180 degrees and therefore the door will need restraining stops, perhaps a rebated top rail? I still can't see...

    Walk-in wardrobe

Not sure I understand your question. A straight edge screwed to the floor offset by what ever distance, to centre on where the fixed panel will sit. Say a 6mm bit for a 18mm panel. The loose tenon would be glued into this which the groove in the panel would slide over. I would run the groove in...

    Nobody gives a .....

Cozzer, Interesting to hear of your experience as I have the identical boiler fitted. As a former electronics engineer I find it frustrating that a small fault in a circuit board renders it inoperative and silly money to replace.

    Walk-in wardrobe

As you have a palm router, you could groove the floor and bottom of the panel and use a loose tenon. Agree with your left hand drawing as safest construction. Again you would need some kind of a stop if the hinges are inside, to prevent damage, ie trying to open doors the "wrong way". It is...

Plaster (boarding) over an asbestos ceiling? How best to do it?

I am one of the guilty ones in posting before taking in the details ie poly. tiles. I do not understand the Council's lack of concern. I would have the material analysed for asbestos and whatever the result I would remove the tiles. If asbestos is present I would get specialists in to remove it...

    Walk-in wardrobe

As you want the false skirting effect the frame/ loose panel could still be used but the right hand pair could have the skirting board biscuit jointed/dowelled/ loose tennoned, to the bottom rail of the doors. The right hand fixed panel can be scribed and biscuit jointed to the floor. The...

Advice on paint sprayers for emulsion paint

Dibs-h Totally agree. I built a pair of three bedroom cottages and thought building/finishing two would be easier but it wasn't, evrything you needed was always (sod'd law) on the upper floor of the other semi. Spraying was the only practical way and the repetitive nature of...

    Walk-in wardrobe

Great Job! and a whole lot of work, especially from your description of yourself as new to this. The purpose of a cockbead was always to protect vulnerable veneered edges, particularly drawer/door fronts. Interesting that you have used face frames lipping onto solid mdf(?). These mdf panels...

Advice on paint sprayers for emulsion paint

Dibs-h, I bought a range of paper and poly masking rolls. The paper was a choice od four widths 3-12". The poly also came in various. There are also variation in the type of masking tape (interioor/exterior etc.). As to p-2-Dave's ? on time. Without having to faff about attaching...

Plaster (boarding) over an asbestos ceiling? How best to do it?

A good plasterer can skim coat such a ceiling. They should use sugar soap first to clean the surface. I had it carried out on a textured ceiling (that did not contain asbestos) because it had so many repairs and patches and it was fine.

Advice on paint sprayers for emulsion paint

The whole point of combined masking tape and paper rolls or combined masking tape and polythene is that you do the job once. With the brown paper version it comes in various widths which you fold out when in position. Same is true with the poly version.

Advice on paint sprayers for emulsion paint

I have bought all my decorating supplies from an online specialist Decorating Direct. For skirting boards architrave etc. I have used brown paper rolls with ready applied masking tape. For larger areas like windows and doors the same type of thing but polythene with masking tape applied. You can...

    ChatGPT - artificial intelligence.

As I have said before (in other post topics) being a cynic, I don't go all misty eyed thinking of the future of AI. Many years ago I can remember that all legal judgements etc. would be available to all and searchable. What happened to that project? If there was a case for AI the legal world is...

Advice on paint sprayers for emulsion paint

Dibs-h, I am sure the only difference is the wheels/cart arrangement. Cleaning routine bit of a faff but result good. I bought & used mine originally for a pair of three bed semi-detached houses (new build). It should get wheeled out when the next house is built (when I can get over...
