Can anyone tell me how this table has been made?

    A smoking ban?

As a non-smoker (for the past 50 years), that doesn't have an issue with smoking. I don't condone it, in fact I think it idiotic but policing a ban would be impossible, think clear up rate for burglary, though I am quite sure the police would love those powers. In my early days in the navy we...

Anyone tried the "labour saving arm" clamps?

Having fittedd many kitchens, I always use a modified car scissor jack (or two) to lift wall cabinets. Cheap controllable in both directions and fold flat when not needed. Also love the mini-air bags for lifting and positioning, even house doors, windows and machines. I have accumulated a vast...

    Has anyone bought from Temu?

Dabop, I Agree these problems have been around for an age. The difference is mainly how widespread and rather more sophisticated it has become. As always take care. I don't do any social media and I don't use my phone for banking (though we are being forced that way-carparks not...

The biggest data farmers on the internet are Google, Microsoft and Amazon. Bit late to shut the horse's door now.

    Re roofing my workshop

I have used the bitumen corrugated sheets extensively in the past and would echo the comment that they need loads of supprt or they sag. Somebody mentioned a log cabin. We had one installed in our garden (10Mx3M) and the normal was bitumen felt or the bitumen shingles beloved by our friends...

    Has anyone bought from Temu?

Jester129, though I believe you must check carefully, my experience is the opposite ie. 90% good! I have many National health dressings on prescription which are clearly marked "Made in China". I have also bought dressings through Temu, which are identical. I suspect that the NHS pays much more...

Air source Heat Pumps any good?

I agree 100% with yngndrw's last post, do your research so that you can make a rational decision.

Air source Heat Pumps any good?

When looking at installing heat pumps in a new build 12 years ago (pair of semidetached cottages each with a heat pump), I bought a book on the subject (heat pumps for the home, John Cantor). I used this to be able to understand the subject, when dealing with the firm(s) for installation. I...

    Has anyone bought from Temu?

I have bought from Temu, several times over the past few months. It does take a lot of wading through the products but generally the products are as described. I would say that sometimes clever photography makes items look bigger than they are, so check sizes carefully. The only downside...

    Whitworth Socket Set.

I too thought Kamasa were Japanese. I bought a large 1/2"set Whitworth/A/F and metric in the 60s/early 70s. All in a large tin box, the plastic insert has fallen to bits but all sockets still going strong, though the ratchet failed some years ago. I seem to remember "Green Shield Stamps" being...

Air source Heat Pumps any good?

PDW125, very welcome comments. It is quite common to use heat pumps in Scandinavian countries that regularly have these low temperatures, so what is the problem? Our own installation ten years ago would cycle on and off quite often in the winter but not constantly and no they did not disturb...

Air source Heat Pumps any good?

AJPTemple, You mention local authority funding. The Civil Infrastructure levy (CIL) is designed for that. All developments have to pay this up front (some v. small developments excused), these sums can be huge. What the local authority does with this money is a mystery. Our area (like most in...

Air source Heat Pumps any good?

Put simply, it doesn't. We are talking about the start up power consumption of the pump motor which is pretty much a fan. Plenty of information on the web about the technology and how it keeps the startup current low. This was the point I was answering to the post by mc281. Read this brochure...

Air source Heat Pumps any good?

When talking about ASHP startup current, I don't know where posters get their "facts" from. Regardles of pros or cons. I installed Misubishi Ecodan units 7Kw ten years ago. They were quiet and I never noticed any lights flickering when they cut in. The current Ecodan models quote a start up...

    Clamp identification

They do look a bit "recent" but they are identical to fretsaw table clamps. The metal table had a slot to take the clamp and the table (with a vee-shape cutout) was clamped to table/bench and hung clear to enable fretwork. Mind you I have seen similar clamps holding up ping-pong nets!

    Another scam?

On the question of possible scams. My Son-in-Law's Sister agreed to purchase a 20' shipping container. The company would only accept payment from a "business account". Companies House details, also raised a red flag so she did not purchase. What could be the reason, for only accepting this...

    Reinforcing loose wall plugs.

When fixing into lightweight blocks, I have used "aercrete square wall plugs", it is possible to hammer them in directly but I find it easier to drill a 6mm hole first. I also use them on old plaster/ soft brick areas where all other plugs fail. Toolstation, B&Q etc.
