    Japanese Toolbox

Hey @Citracal, Nice job. Thanks for the inspiration. I'm about to build one of these for myself. I have a sheet of good quality 15mm marine grade ply left over from an earlier job. I hope it will be strong enough. I'd rather not shell out on another sheet of 18mm as it's super expensive here...

    Introduction

Welcome to the madhouse! You’ll find loads of useful advice and tips here. My two pence worth re. table saw vs upgraded bandsaw. If you work a lot with sheet goods then a table saw probably makes sense. Although a decent track saw (maybe in conjunction with an MFT style bench) can do many of...

Wood slipping on mitre gauge on router table

These are the plans for the sled I will be making, in case you’re looking for inspiration. Maybe a bit more elaborate than necessary but has the advantage of not relying on a mitre track. The polycarbonate guide is designed to ride against the fence and is long enough (15”) to ensure that the...

Wood slipping on mitre gauge on router table

Yeah, think a coping sled is the best approach here. I’ve had similar problems with narrow stock (where there isn’t enough reference surface against the fence). I have the plans and bought the hardware (clamps, etc). to make a nice coping sled but haven’t got round to it yet.

    Wolfcraft Doweling Jig

I have the Wolfcraft Dowelmaster (464000) jig. I used it a few times to assemble furniture pieces and have managed to get it to work. But the issues you mention (re. difficulty holding it in place, vibration, lack of accuracy, etc.) are all familiar. It isn’t very good and I won’t use it again...

Who do you follow on YouTube?

I forgot Shannon Rodgers (the Renaissance Woodworker). Not a prolific YouTube creator anymore - probably because he mostly makes premium videos for his “hand tool school” - but interesting and knowledgeable content nonetheless. I also enjoy the podcast - Woodtalk - that he makes with Marc...

I also enjoy Rex Krueger. I can see why he isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I find his videos informative and amusing.

Parf Guide II for hardwood MFT top

I got a spare cutter when I made my MFT top out of 18mm thick marine grade ply. I didn’t need and have since used the original cutter to bore holes in 35-40mm thick pieces of Purpleheart. Still seems usable but I think it makes sense to have a back up just in case.

    Trend t12 vs t14

If it is to be used exclusively in a router table then personally I’d go for a router motor (e.g. the AUK tools motor from @Wood Workers Workshop) mounted in a router lift. They do package deals on the motor unit with various lifts including Incra and Jessem models.
