    Drill Stand Advice Please

I use the corded Bosch GSB 21-2RE in my Wabeco stand. Works well, plenty of power, two gears, variable speed, has a trigger lock, etc.

    Rebate depth?

Cheers Pete. I can see that being easier but I don’t have a table saw so router it is.

    Rebate depth?

Thanks Doug. I should have mentioned that I have use a Bosch 1600GMF. And the material is Purpleheart, so pretty hard / dense.

    Rebate depth?

I need to route some rebates on picture frames I'm making and these will be 18mm wide. I need to cut to full width and depth in one pass. This is because the frames are narrow - just 30mm - so there won't be enough supporting material left to stabilise the peices for multiple passes. I have a...

    Help me get square!

Agree with Jacob and Robin that you should only try to flatten and square boards that are close to finish length. There are various ways to do this depending on the machines/tools at your disposal. For ages, I planed one face flat and squared one edge by hand (using a 5 1/2 Jack plane) before...

    Drill Stand Advice Please

I have the Wabeco 1243 stand. It is heavy duty, solid and accurate. There are smaller cheaper models in their range. None are particularly cheap though but you will appreciate the quality. Check that your drill will fit the 43mm mounting.

Chip or vacuum extractor for router table?

I have the Bosch GMF1600. Using 1/2” shanked bits including a slot cutter set and a large chamfer bit. From what you and others have said, it seems the NVD750 (with attached cyclone) is the better of the two options. Cheers.

Chip or vacuum extractor for router table?

Hi @Jake & all I have a similar dilemma to the OP. The port on the back of my router table fence is 63mm. Not that tiny. I have two options. I could step down from the 100mm ports on either a HVLP double filtration chip extractor or a HPLV Numatic NVD750 shop vacuum. Which do you think is...

Not just another table saw thread

Cool (y) I took advantage of the recent sales to get myself one with the precision fence and accessories. We have two young kids and live in a residential area. It's going to be nice to carry on working in the evening without disturbing family and neighbours. Can do any required milling and...

    Tersa compatible thicknessers

Not sure what you've read and would be interested to know what has led you to that conclusion. I haven't used Tersa blades so can't comment on the system. But I have been using the Axminster AT330ST spiral lunchbox style thicknesser for a couple of years. Really can't fault it (apart from...

    Incra too long?

This is how I've got it configured. I haven't drilled dog holes in the 18mm plywood base plate, though I could easily using the Parf guide Mk2 system that I used to make the table. I just use dog hole mounted toggle clamps at the moment, so it basically achieves the same thing assuming the setup...

    Incra too long?

Less fancy than the LS positioners but INCRA's original jig and fence system features 200mm of fence travel. It's very simple to use and "indexes on 1.0mm increments with the same + and -0.03mm positioning accuracy and repeatability of our top-of-the-line LS Positioners". The original jig and...

Band saw - Scheppach BASA3 vs Scheppach Basato 3V (vs Scheppach BASA 3.0)

Higher cost of raw materials (e.g. iron, steel, etc.), rising wages in China, factory closures due to Covid, substantial increases in the cost of global shipping....

Not just another table saw thread

How small? Have you considered Bridge City's Jointmaker Pro (JMPv2)? Effectively a human powered tablesaw. They had a flash sale last weekend where the saw and precision fence system were both available at half price. Looks like there's still a 40% discount ATM. If the idea of working very...

    Custom MFT top

Me too. Great work Ian. Like Spectric, I would seriously consider this design for my next bench and agree on the idea of an hinged apron with microjig slots. Hope you enjoy using it!

Mitre Saw - Erbauer or Bosch?

I've had this saw for a couple of years and have used it quite a bit. No site work though, only in the workshop so can't speak for its robustness to being lugged around in a van. Been really happy with it. Note it only has a 216mm blade so quite small capacity (max depth 80mm if I remember...

    Bosch GMF1600 not working

Update: seem to have fixed it (for now). Took apart the handle to access the switch mechanism and blew out any dust there, as this is a known issue. Didn't resolve the problem. So removed the motor housing (the top cover) and examined the wiring looking for loose connections. Identified the...

    Bosch GMF1600 not working

Evening all, My Bosch GMF1600 has been playing up over the last few days. Intermittently refusing to start or, more recently, stopping mid cut. Until today I've been able to get it going again by blowing and wiping the contact strip and the vents on the motor unit to clear any dust/debris. Now...

Pillar drill buying advice, Bosch PBD40?

Hi Doug Do you already have a good corded power drill? The more powerful the better and it needs a Euronorm 43mm diameter drive unit and a lock for the power trigger. If so, it might be worth considering the drill stands from the German company Wabeco. Proper heavy duty and, in my experience...

    BenchdogsUK set up problems

Hi Dom Does sound like the holes are not properly aligned. I can't speak for the UJK valchromat top (though given the quality of the UJK products in general I suspect it would be bang on). I do have the Parf Guide Mk2 kit though and it worked like a dream for me. Certainly a substantial...
