Thoughts welcome on my bench top idea

Hi Rob. Welcome aboard! Agree with this. I like Dennis’ design and when I get round to building a new bench I’ll certainly take inspiration from that. Also Andy at the Woodgrafter (see his channel on YouTube) built a nice bench recently. My current bench is a take on Ron Paulk’s design (again...

    Minimum Log Diameter for Chairmaking

Yeah, French Guiana. Amazonia bordering the north of Brazil. It’s a French overseas territory so we use the Euro. Even though it’s part of the Americas, typically post is routed through Paris. So likely to be expensive. Will look into it. Thanks.

    Minimum Log Diameter for Chairmaking

Thanks for the heads up about the ‘Little Ripper’ Recipio. Not seen that before. It isn’t cheap though and I think shipping it here (from Canada to French Guiana) would cost too much. I wonder if anyone has made a DIY version that can achieve the same results? Also, when you say “a big saw”, how...

    Sold Felder Hammer planer thicknesser

What cutter block does it have? Standard, Tersa, Silent Power (helical)?

    New Bandsaw

Wow. If it’s in good working order, for 600 Euros that’s a steal! I’d snap it up.

    New Bandsaw

Sure. I paid 1350 Euros for mine. Plus shipping and import taxes. The price indicated on the website is definitely negotiable though I think prices have gone up since I placed the order.

    New Bandsaw

I’ve honestly been super impressed with how well it cuts. Took care to set it up and good blades obviously help. Don’t have experience of bigger pro/industrial saws but this has met or surpassed my expectations so far. Haven’t tried to resaw to capacity (300mm) yet but have had no problems at...

    New Bandsaw

Agree with this Martin. I might have considered a well maintained second hand saw if I was in the UK or mainland Europe but wouldn’t have risked anything that needed much work as I don’t have the skills or time to devote to it. In any case, out here in French Guiana second hand woodworking...

    New Bandsaw

I recently (4 months ago) took delivery of a Holzprofi HBS430M. Made in Taiwan but don’t let that put you off. I’ve found it to be high quality build, accurate and easily adjusted, powerful enough for my needs (1.5kw motor). It has 430mm (17 inch) cast iron wheels and a max depth of cut of...

    Cathodic protection for cast iron

Harvey make a bandsaw with a TiN (titanium nitride) coated cast iron bed. Sold by Axminster in the UK (see here). Apparently this helps prevent corrosion. Also there's a thread here where a guy discusses having nickel or zinc plated components of his bandsaw in the manner you describe. So...

    Clamp recommendations

Digging up an old thread here I know. But just wanted to say thanks @Droogs for the info and advice. As you know I live in Amazonia and getting equipment out here is not easy - things not available or super expensive. Need to do some panel glue ups and don't have the clamps. Rather than pay a...

Ready to kit out my workshop ... It's taken 3years to get here

The HH in the Jet JPT-310-HH stands for helical head. Jet also do the 310 model with a traditional 3 knife cutter block (JPT-310-M), which is cheaper. As far as I know, the Record PT300 is only supplied with a 3 knife block. I’m sure you could get an aftermarket (third party) helical head to...

    Cathodic protection for cast iron

I also use the Axminster Machine Wax. I bought two tins a couple of years ago. I’ve used maybe half a tin so far. However, the open tin seems to have gone “off” (for want of a better expression). It’s kind of grainy now and rather than lubricating the machine beds it is actually making them...

Laguna fusion 3 table saw (few questions)

I'll ask again: what is your YouTube channel? I can't imagine why you would want to hide that information if you go to the bother of creating YouTube content for public consumption. You're coming across badly here. There's an air of entitlement and condescension in your posts which, personally...

    What higher-end bandsaw?

I resaw with a 20mm (3/4") Tuffsaws M42 blade. Like Martin, my saw is capable of accepting a blade up to 32mm wide. It was supplied with a 30mm carbon steel blade but I've never installed it. I doubt very much that I could adequately tension an M42 blade of that width. The 20mm M42 blade works...

    What higher-end bandsaw?

Yeah, I think you're right. But some of their LT range bandsaws have definitely been manufactured in Italy. Whether that's still the case I'm not sure?

    What higher-end bandsaw?

Great question! Often wondered this. Agazzani, ACM, Centauro, SCM, Laguna... How is it that many of the best European bandsaw manufacturers are based in Italy?
