    Kid's tools

My nine year old daughter always enjoys shaping with a spoken shave and rasp. They are both relatively safe and quite rewarding (in as much as it is easy to change the shape of a bit of wood.

How To Avoid Kickback On The Table Saw

You tube comments sections don't generally have the same polite considered discourse we employ at UKW. I sometimes comment on political videos and pseudo science videos and have literally had death threats. The trick is not to care, remain polite and stick to the truth. It is very unlikely that...

How To Avoid Kickback On The Table Saw

Without practice yes hands have more control, the more you use push sticks the better you become with them, I have done thousands of cuts with sticks and do not feel I have less control with them, the only time a cut can suffer slightly is the change from hands to sticks on longer pieces, even...

How To Avoid Kickback On The Table Saw

Just had to leave a comment on you tube. I mean it's bad enough seeing these people demonstrating unsafe practices all the time, but to pass them off as "safety instructions", WTF is going on. I encourage people to go to the video and leave comments, you'll probably get a bit of hate, but you...

How To Avoid Kickback On The Table Saw

Oh dear, just watched the rest of the video, just no, so much no I'm going all caps, NO, NO,NO. Stops on a sled need to be removable, clamp on a stop and have a loose piece next to it, push your work up to the loose piece butted to the stop and move it out of the way. Never hold both sides of...

How To Avoid Kickback On The Table Saw

Just wanted to get in before Jacob to say please don't listen to this video saying using your hands is safer than push sticks. The safest way for all rip cuts on the table saw is 2 standard push sticks (one to push the work in the direction of the cut, the other to keep it pushed to the fence)...

Turners retreat, Harworth any recomendations ?

Yep, I'm calling it, you're sexist. I've worked with female welders and engineers, no problems. What's more they could do directions and read maps

Planer knife sharpening jig without tilting table saw?!

I realise you don't want to spend any money so feel free to ignore me, but planer knives are best done professionally. It costs about a tenner for a set of three, I'm sure there is someone local to you but I use North London Saws http://www.nlstools.co.uk/ . They do a postal service.

    lunchbox thicknesser chip extraction?

Thanks Selken. Those Tritons are very competitively priced, how do you rate yours? I was put off by the 63mm port because I was worried it would block up, I suppose it's just a question of taking light cuts. Does the port manage if you thickness the full 12"?

    lunchbox thicknesser chip extraction?

HI, In am thinking of buying a "lunchbox" style thicknesser for use at home, I already have a spare 8" planer at work which I can take home. I am aware of the limitations of these machines (and noise) compared to the industrial machines I use at work, however what concerns me most, looking at...

    Festoon TS 55 Track saw

I've had the bearing seize on a TS75 on the front of armature, which stopped the blade turning. I had a hell of a job removing the bearing as there is a plastic fan directly behind it so couldn't get any pullers on it. I had to knock t from the top with the bearing in the vice. I doing that I...
