    DAB Site Radio

I must say I once had a lad working for me that wanted to wear earphones and much to his dismay I said no. TBH it was the irritation at trying to get his attention rather than safety that motivated my decision. I would however argue that radio 4 at reasonable volume is not a safety risk. Paddy

If you're going to build a door ...

If you want to make a door go ahead, but could you not just cut a 1/4" off the existing door?

    DAB Site Radio

I've done a quick search and I cannot find anything from HSE that says this. There is some mention of PAT testing and general noise levels, but the suggestion that the distraction is a danger is never stated. Is this something that you have actually seen from HSE or just your own opinion? Of...

    DAB Site Radio

I recently got given a Minirig, they're fantastic. 50 hrs battery, 100% UK made (in Bristol), they sound great and are indestructible (well, so far), I just bluetooth it to the phone for radio (or a lead for FM). You can also charge your phone from it. They are £130 and I wouldn't have spent so...

Something of interest to the minimalists on the forum

First Rob Cosman video I've actually enjoyed (apart from the sales plug for is over priced tools at the end)

    When Ebay Goes Wrong

Down the road from my sister's house someone threw acid in a pizza delivery driver's face just so he could steal his moped, however if I wanted a moped I would work to save money and buy one, am I naive? A pot of acid would cost me less than a moped. Obviously throwing acid in someone's face is...

    When Ebay Goes Wrong

I had a clear out of tools a few years ago, one thing I listed was a large 3 phase twin compressor pump that had been a back up at a factory and was essentially unused, I had swapped it for a smaller compressor, it was easy worth a grand (much more new), sold for £14. The guy came to pick it up...

Probably not the best marketing for Sawstop

I agree with sentiments above regarding safe use of a table saw, and it probably does negate the need for a saw stop, however just yesterday I watched the lads from the unit next to my dry dock cutting up 4x2 into small blocks for fire wood with loads of nails on a triton workstation with no...

    Stolen Tools

Crikey, that's really bad. I've sold a few things on ebay and never had a problem. It also appears that others in this thread have sold large quantities on ebay with no problems (I once bought a very nice tenon saw from Roger P, thanks Roger). What do you sell? I wonder if certain items attract...

    various Blades and cap irons

Hi JWD, What is the actual problem with the irons and caps? I have a mixture of Record and Stanley irons and can't say I notice much (if any) difference

Dust collection for the Wadkin AGS

Hi Vetrex and welcome to this forum. You will be able to post links after some more posts (it's an anti spam thing). I found your you tube video and your dust collections works very well. I am very interested in this as I am about to do something about under table collection on my AGS10. I have...

    Inspection Lights

Not strictly an "inspection light", but I can't recommend these highly enough. https://www.toolstation.com/shop/p80137?table=no . It is by far the most useful addition to my workshop in years. I have it with me all day at work, in the workshop and the dock, I have dropped it billions of times...

    Essential hand planes

It's not really a "boat thing". It's more to do with when you are away from the bench and one hand holds the work and the block plane is in the other hand. For sure it is possible to do this with a no4 but bench planes are really a two handed affair.

    Essential hand planes

????? I use a block plane all the time. I could live without one if I only made free standing furniture, but for any fitting work (I fit out boats) they are essential (well to me anyways)

    How much for a router!!??

Last year I considered getting a second router so I could keep it at final depth and creep up on the gauge line with my Stanley. I never did get one but after checking ebay I decided a new LV or LN was the way to go. I'm pretty sure I only paid £10 or £20 for my Stanley, and that was only seven...

best plane as gift for 2nd year carpentry student

Davlo, I would recommend a Quangsheng No,4 or block plane from Workshop Heaven. I don't disagree that a vintage Stanley or Record could be fine (indeed I only have vintage stanley and record bench planes) but a QS will work perfectly out of the box and he can avoid getting too deep into tool...

    Krenovian Damascas Plane

Kind of telling that he makes a plane and at the end of the video planes a board with a no.5 and then puts his plane on the planed section, telling us it "works very well", without showing us it taking a single shaving. EDIT Whoops, I totally mixed up what he was doing at the end, the speeding...
