    Plane (and sharpening) training?

Steady on there Jacob. Paddy (trad english bench user, freehand sharpener (mostly), not really concerned what others do but I would recommend a jig for the non mentored beginner so they can find out what sharp means)

3mm Bevel Edged Chisel - Really?

Reminds me of George Best when he said "I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."

Anyone Knows Where you can get Jigsaw blades for bend cuts?

+1 for loads of relief cuts. Jigsaws are never that accurate so It is a good idea to cut away from your line and clean up with round bottomed spoke shave and chisel

    Accurate table saw - £500?

At work we have a large bandsaw and tablesaw. I would definitely prefer to cut these wedges with the bandsaw rather than the table saw. The bandsawn wedges may well need cleaning up with a hand plane However if I were doing this in my shed at home I would use a rip cut 4tpi hand saw and a no 4...

    router depth stop

Thanks for replies. I get the foot for closing up the mouth, although I never really use the router along the grain on narrow boards, my filister does that job. I think I get what you are saying Billy, when I get to work tomorrow I'm going to have little play, I've got a 50ft boat roof to sand...

    router depth stop

I have a 071 router that I use all the time, recently I have been thinking that it would be nice to have 2 so I can leave one at final depth for batch work whilst the other I take down in increments. I have been quite shocked at the price they seem to be fetching on ebay, with many of the buy...

    Diamond stones

Just a quick note of caution when it comes to the coarser diamond stones. When i first got one I thought I would never have to use the grinder again. I reshaped cambers and took all the pitting out of the faces of my older irons. Pretty soon they lose their bite. They still work but not as they...

    Japanese saw for resawing?

Personally I find it harder to keep on track with a ryoba saw than a western saw. It gives a lovely clean rip but only has minimal set and is hard to correct if I go astray, also the plate is a bit wobbly as it is so thin. Fine for short rips but not resawing. I find my 24" 4 tpi rip saw, with a...

Gap filling adhesive for Tote Repair?

Mike, it's probably worth saying twice

Gap filling adhesive for Tote Repair?

There is a myth that PU glues are good for gap filling. Sure the foam fills the gap but it does not offer any strength when there is a gap, indeed PVA would be better than PU. Have a look at these tests by Mathias Wandel http://woodgears.ca/joint_strength/gorilla_glue.html If you want an...

    Seasoned wood in South Wales

Have you tried wentwood timber near Newport. All local woods, not sure about walnut but plenty of cherry

    Modern Plane Irons

Our health care is fine if you cut yourself with old fashioned O1 steel, but cut yourself with PMV11 and you need more advanced care

    Is this a Rutlands Plane

Bm101, I too would always prefer to buy from WH than Rutlands. Matthew, who posts here quite regularly, certainly seems to be someone who is more interested in tools and woodwork than shifting units. Sometimes it's worth a few quid more to know that if there are any problems then they would sort...

    Is this a Rutlands Plane

I think the quangsheng qiangsheng thing is more about how people choose to translate a chinese word into english. The correct spelling is 屈安胜 曲安圣. that said I have heard that WH quality control is better than Rutlands, and for sure their customer service is better.

Basic question from a new woodworker!

I would definitely use a block plane, despite having routers. It's quick quiet and safe. Also it is small, I don't know how much space you have but router tables take up a lot of space. You will have to learn to sharpen it, but the time spent doing that will be well worth it for all your future...

    Parf dogs size discrepancy

I just use 20mm electrical conduit that I had lying around cut to length and it fits totally snug. I filed the leading edge to make them easier to put in. I haven't measured it but may put some verniers on them at work tomorrow (anything to delay actual work) Paddy
