    Chisel primary bevel sharpening.

It'd be a miracle if you could use that as a jig, my boy: Of course there's always the possibility that if he had sharpened differently he might have stuck with the carpentry. Maybe that final bit of tearout on the Cedar of Lebanon drove him to take up the whole son of god thing

Don't know if I have ever posted on one of your threads but I have enjoyed following all of them and have a great deal of respect for your craftsmanship. Certainly don't worry about any inconvenience to us, but you will be missed. Hope you beat the black dog. Paddy

    Chisel primary bevel sharpening.

David, I wish I was organised enough to find anything in 5 seconds, particularly the thing I just had. Corneel, mortice chisels fit just fine in my honing guide, including pigstickers, indeed they are one of the few tools I use them for as I hone them at 35 degrees. Whenever these arguments...

    Chisel primary bevel sharpening.

I sharpen most of my tools freehand with a single bevel. I aim for flat but probably they are slightly rounded ala Jacob and Paul Sellers. People often say that a micro bevel is quicker but I don't find it takes long to sharpen with a single bevel. I used to use a honing guide and a secondary...

Brief mortice chisel comparison + feedback Workshop Heaven

Fair play AJP. I always find the last digit on my verniers a bit of a distraction, I kinda wish it wasn't there sometimes as I catch myself worrying about wood coming off the thicknesser (which I spent a lot of time shimming and messing with as it used to come out mm s out) being a few 1/100ths...

Brief mortice chisel comparison + feedback Workshop Heaven

When you say the Narex measured a bit over are you referring too the picture of the verniers reading 6.07mm? If so I would suggest that it is as likely to be the verniers as the chisel. I use cheap digital verniers all the time but I wouldn't put to much faith in the 100ths of a mm. Indeed after...

    Lidl chisels

When did you buy your Narex? The Czech Republic and Slovakia split in 1993 and the Czech Reublic have bee in the EU since 2004 and use the Euro as their currency. Are your chisels communist era? If so I'm interested to know what they're like Paddy

    Lidl chisels

Hi Pedder, This issue has been discussed at some length on other threads but as you raise it I would like to say, yes we all, or nearly all, would like to have clifton planes, ashley ilses chisels and even perhaps some of your fantastic saws, unfortunate;y many of us cannot afford this. What is...

    smaller cutter on stanley multiplane

Thanks for responses. I changed my plan and used a 1/4" cutter in my wooden filister plane so have not yet tried taking one skate off the stanley. I will give it a go at work tomorrow if I get a free moment and will report back. Paddy

    smaller cutter on stanley multiplane

I have a stanley 13-50 multiplane. I've had it for some time but where possible use my wooden moving filister. Today I wanted to plough a 3/16" groove and I do not have the correct sized cutter for the woody. I turned to the stanley and I am baffled, the smaller cutters (1/8, 3/16 and 4mm) do...

If you don't sharpen it's bound to be pointless. I'll get my coat.

    So much for so little

Too true. I'm after a second one and can't believe the price their fetching. I'm starting to think that a new Lie nielsen or Veritas for £107 is the best bet and I've never bought a new "premium" tool before in my life

    Woodworking for children

Interesting thread.Me and my seven year old daughter are building a woodworking bench for her in the shed at our flat this half term so she doesn't have to stand on a stool to reach my vice. She sometimes does stuff in my workshop at work, a drydock (we used to live there in a boat). I've never...

Which router? Newbie in need of advice.

There are a lot of hand tools that you can buy, but most things can be made with a very few tools. I must confess to owning quite a few planes, but most of them were £1-£10 at boot sales and I don't really need them. What I don't have is a chamfer plane, you just plane the wood with the plane at...
