    Home Tuition

The problem with offering one on one tuition is that there is only one person paying the wages/costs. In a class of, say 15, the costs are split 15 ways. I might be wrong (not an uncommon event) but I think he would struggle to find customers willing to pay enough to make it worthwhile.

    Improve Cheap Table saw

I agree that even on a cheap saw a cross cut sled can be pretty perfect, they are also safer and easier to use than a mitre fence Good method for getting the cut perfectly square here at 28 mins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UbG-n--LFgQ I wouldn't trim my runners on the table saw like he does...

First big tool purchase? £800 budget

Just to throw some more mud in the water, I have a fully equipped workshop in my dry dock and I never use a mitre saw. I crosscut with a sled on the table saw, with the track saw, or, probably most often with a hand saw. If I could only have one woodworking power tool it would be my bandsaw (an...

    Groove or M & T first in a frame?

Unless you have a really large sub base to your router plane then it won't be able to reach the whole length of a long tenon. You could do the first inch next to the shoulder with the router plane instead of a chisel if your worried about the accuracy of your paring with the chisel. If you plane...

    Groove or M & T first in a frame?

Hi Andy, when I split large tenons I do some stop cuts parallel with the shoulder, roughly every inch. this avoids worries about the grain taking the split off course. These are dead quick to do because you don't need to mark them as they don't need to be dead square across or downwards, the...

My first tablesaw: Wadkin AGS 10, help and advice wanted!

Hi, have you taken the table off and cleaned all f the sawdust from the threads that operate the rise and fall and blade tilt? My adjustments were really stiff, one I'd cleaned it all it worked a treat. When putting the table back on you need to make sure that it is square, he easiest way is to...

    Ash and durability

This confused me for a second as my OP started about a conversation with a traveller (as in Gypsy not the car). Back on subject, if ash is not good for such applications why was it used? Surely the amount of hours in making a wagon make the difference in price between oak and ash negligible...

    Ash and durability

The other day I was chatting to a traveller who was building a wagon (horse drawn). I was surprised that he was using ash as it is listed as non durable in all online sources I have seen. I asked him about this and he replied that he didn't really know about that but they were always built from...

A couple of questions about built ins

Reading the paragraph below from the OP "My questions relate to making accurate measurements of the width of the alcove it will sit in. Using a tape the gap looks very close to true (about 957mm) and given it's a new build then I would expect some semblance of use of a level!! So that's good...

Bandsaw blues - buying advice needed

New blade, indeed you will eventually need several blades depending on thickness of wood and whether you are cutting straight or curved. I get mine from my local saw doctor and have no complaints, but Tuffsaws are constantly recommended here. I also get mine sharpened regularly and a freshly...

A couple of questions about built ins

I pay £45ish for birch BB grade 18mm. The faces have wooden plugs where the knots are/were but if it's to be painted this is fine. I use Lathams or Roberts, but I'm sure some searching will find something local to you at a sensible price. I really recommend using it instead of poorer quality...

    another wadkin 10 ags

Hi Slate1234, just one thing I should mention about about the crown guard, the hole in my riving knife needed drilling out to accept the bolt that holds it on. The steel of my knife was super hard and it was very difficult to drill eve with the pillar drill. Make sure you have a sharp bit and...

    another wadkin 10 ags

Hi Slate1234, I have the same saw and never really bother to lock the blade height. I wouldn't do anything unless the blade height is drifting in use. for the guard I just bought this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Circular-Saw- ... 2721563421 Paddy
