    multico help

Many thanks for posting the manuals up, I had forgotten that i had posted on the old thread quite a few years ago! It looks like my machine is a TH, I have been using it for years with the feed rollers set way out of adjustment, not surprising that sometimes it struggled to feed, Simply too...

Bad buying decisions or tool regrets

Some years back i bought a portamig mig welder, largely on the back of numerous recomendations. I bought it to replace an elderly cebora. After much talking to the supplier it went back to the factory & had new parts fitted, It still wasnt any good. Manufacturer didnt want to know. In the end it...

    Powered Respirators

Getting one with impact protection is a no brainer. I was wearing my Airstream the day a stone cutting disc burst on an angle grinder while i was cutting old engine beds out of a grp yacht, I was looking down on the edge of the disc as it blew, the guard kept some away but some ricocheted...

    Powered Respirators

I started work back in 79 at Thames Marine who built GRP yachts & industrial mouldings. The guys who trimmed the mouldings were issued with the then new Racal Airstream helmet powered respirator, I believe they were designed for the mining & other hazardous industries. One of them showed me this...

    Multico Planer Feed issues

All back together this morning, a slight hiccup over the weekend as the drive chain was one link short with the feed rollers set where they should be, Fortunately i had a spare new chain of the right size & pitch that was too long. New drive belt to the cutter head as well. Fired her up & its...

    Peoples views on the bay

I dont use ebay anymore, costs too much & too much grief. Preloved used to be quite good but seems to have died off. Marketplace is good if you are selling local but is infested with scammers. It all depends on what you are selling. Targeted sales are best, If its engineering stuff...

    Multico Planer Feed issues

I got the feed roller out ok, Took it home cleaned it & stuck it in my lathe, turned out to be worn by nearly 1mm in the centre, I have skimmed it down & this has sharpened the teeth nicely, rear slope of the teeth was then cleaned down with a triangular file. New springs have been made from a...

Wood burning stove for the workshop?

I just made a small woodurner for my workshop, it is made from a Divers air tank that i found washed up on the sea wall. Its in a large double garage & burns about a bucket full of sticks & small logs a day. In this past week temperature was down to minus 4 in the morning & zero in the...

Original late Victorian wrought iron gates, scrappy or . . .

Dont scrap them, real wrought iron is sought after. Any decent blacksmith or reclaim yard would have those off you for more than you would get for scrap.

    Sad news

The article says three pieces of wood had separated, so it was probably a segmented job. Other than that not enough info. To do that damage it must have been overspeeding though. In my last job as a D&T technician we were told during data training never to use glued up blanks, no real reason...

    Multico Planer Feed issues

I reckon you are right, I just had a look at it & the feed roller is at least 6mm below the cutter blades, sprayed everything with release oil & will have a go at taking the roller out tomorrow, the roller itself appears to be noticeably worn in the centre.

    Multico Planer Feed issues

Thats useful to know I suspect the springs are wrong anyway, the coils are very close together & i suspect get coil bound when the work goes in. I have some heavy springs that will do the job so think it wise to take the roller out & replace the springs, While the rollers out i might as well...

    Multico Planer Feed issues

I have a very old Multico 12" thicknesser, I think it is an L3 model. I bought it back in 1984 secondhand from a scrap yard & it had been in a fire so was quite cosmetically challenged. Re motored it served for 18 years in my workshop & then in the boatshed down the yacht club. Lately i have...

    ...ed Off...

We must be lucky, The extension was ten years ago, we needed another room plastering a year ago so phoned the same guy. Who should turn up but the very same lad who had been the apprentice ten years back. Now he is a big geezer & obviously been trained well. Job went same as before, first class...

    Walnut tree

40 years old is a young walnut tree, How big is the trunk in Diameter? I would be surprised if there is much usable timber in it. The sapwood is pale & wide & of no value except as firewood. The dark heartwood is the valuable bit. For anyone thinking of cutting one up bear in mind that the most...

    ...ed Off...

There are some tradesmen who are good & they will charge accordingly. I know a carpenter like this, but he now employs a couple of guys, He has rakes of work, Likewise a plasterer, of the three i asked for a quote for our extension, One turned up & looked like he had been dipped in the stuff...

    Drilling Hardened Steel

A technician i worked with told me a method that might be worth trying, he had to drill some holes through hardened steel, He reckoned a piece of copper tube charged with grinding paste was slow but did the job.

    Steam bending advice

Im my trade boatbuilding steaming timbers is a common activity, First selection of stock, try to avoid grain runout on outer edges, Always sand the outer edges as the slightest nick in the grain will encourage a break. Green timber is best for steaming but if all you have is kilned or air dried...

What ideas have you had for reducing Electricity consumption

They are an absolute con, It is nothing more than a wall mounted hairdryer & made from flimsy plastic. I wonder how long it will be before one burns a house down? You would be better off with a 250 watt infra red poultry lamp. Half the running cost & warms what the light hits.

How To Deal With Split Blanks?

I would use epoxy, If the split goes right through a good way of getting the glue in is to stick the vacumn cleaner nozzle one side, it will pull the glue right through, keep moving the nozzle where you need it. I have also used small holes drilled in & injected the epoxy with a syringe.
