    **** Ups

This sounds like exactly the kind of thing I do. Thank God it isn't just me.

    New Number 1 DIY disaster

The pictures aren't working for me, so there may be obvious reason why this won't work, but can you turn it over?

    staining mahogany red

Are you just after the colour, or the finish? I've found the best results using tinted sprayed lacquer, rather than dying the wood. This guitar is Rustins plastic coating tinted with alcohol based dye from Luthiers Mercantile International in the States.

    Under Floor Heating

Having recently ( beginning of first lockdown) had wet UFH installed, and laid bamboo in top, I'd steer well clear of your plan. The bamboo is more dimensionally stable than most solid woods, and it still shrank significantly after the temperatures dropped and we started using the UFH. I also...

    The Lock-Picking Lawyer

This is sheet pedantry, but I solid-gold promise he didn't use skeleton keys. They're a very specific tool, which are ineffective against the vast majority of locks in current production, and certainly not remotely helpful on any vehicle lock, with the possible exception of one drawn by a horse.

    Buying soft close hinges

trade hinges are great - very reasonably priced and the order was well packed and promptly dispatched.

    The Lock-Picking Lawyer

Addressing the earlier point about drilling locks which can be picked, I worked as a Locksmith for 10 years, and I have drilled a lot of locks, which I hated, but which was often the only way to open the lock without very expensive specialist tools, or a massive investment of time in...

    I've got the clamps!

Looks they are manufacturers of Axminsters trade clamps.

    Pony faceframe clamping

Funnily enough, I saw these today, in an unrelated woodwork video. It's a clamp with a drill guide in the clamping jaw, so you can use it to clamp neighbouring face frames together, then drill a pilot hole and screw the frames together, without unclamping then.

    Workshop security

Good advise - my false alarms have all coincided with a spider taking up residence in front of the PIR.

    Shove ha'penny board?

I remember my grandfather's board, which I'm sure was mahogany or walnut, and instead of simple grooves which you could run a penny through, it had inlaid brass strips, which were hinged at one end, so you could lift them up to see if a coin was on the line or over it. We spent hours playing...

    Recommend good one handed clamps

I need to buy a load of these for site work, as carting ductile iron around is getting a bit tiresome. Any one recommend any makes in particular?

    Coffee beans recommendation?

Happy Donkey. I buy 6 kilos at a time, It isn't super-fancy chin-stroking coffee (nothing wrong with that, mind) but it is very consistent, and very reasonably priced *good* coffee.

Don't throw out these old wiper blades!

Oh, and also consider handles with a grub screw to attach the handle onto the lock spindle. Properly fitted, these eliminate any real need to have screws holding the handle to the door, other than for countering rotation of the rose. You can modify existing handles in most cases, if you...

Don't throw out these old wiper blades!

New doors..... (Kidding!) I'm guessing these are handle-on-rose, with the screws entirely into the thin section of wood left after the lock is morticed into the door? They're a swine to get right even with sound timber in the door. I'd look at filling all the old holes with small tapered...

Don't throw out these old wiper blades!

The Banham double-sided cylinders with the pierced key can be trivially easy to open. I've opened a number in a professional capacity, including 1 which I had finished installing about 2 minutes earlier, only for the customer to shut it with the key inside whilst testing it.... The...
