Thanks Argus, not sure how i managed to pay the same thread twice. The duplicate had been deleted.

What are these? Stanley Scraper blades

I have just rediscovered these in a box in my garage: Purchased about 12 years ago, from a now defunct tool shop by Archway station, these were labelled 'Scraper blades' and I bought them to chop up into mini plane irons. Any idea what they were for? Googling the various Stanley scraper...

Anyone else have an issue with differing Makita track profiles?

Contract FFX. As the previous poster said, your contact is with them as the retailer, their contact is with Makita as the manufacturer. I would be requesting a new set of rails, and would expect them to be inspected before shipping to confirm they match. Had you received the rails...

    silicone removal

I've heard wd40 is very effective at breaking down silicone, albeit it can cause subsequent applications to fail prematurely.

    Removing banjo fingerboard.

No leverage - wedging. A palette knife thinned to wafer thin to start, you can sit clothes iron in the board, and put the end of the knife inbetween the board and the iron to heat it. This can get a few mm under the corners and get things started, then switch to a slightly more rigid...

    Tips for re painting walls.

Make sure any bare plaster is given a mist coat of dilute emulsion (20-30% water) or it will peel off right back to bare plaster if you recoat it in the future. DAMHIK!

    Chair repair (Sgian Dubh? Custard?)

The liquid hide glue has urea added to extend it's open time, and needs extended clamping and drying time - I've been leaving stuff 24 hrs to dry before stressing it, in clamps if practical. Is the favour skin glue heated in a gluepot, or in a bottle ready to use? Not directly relevant to...

    Chair repair (Sgian Dubh? Custard?)

I found a few good posts by you on the subject of furniture when I googled for info, albeit from 10 plus years ago. Thanks for your thoughts. I should probably have included mrpercysnodgrass and Jacob as well, there's a wealth of knowledge here but my ability to call up the names on command is...

    Chair repair (Sgian Dubh? Custard?)

Thanks @mrpercysnodgrass for your advice and very kind offer. Echoing Adam, would fish glue work better than liquid hide glue, which I already have? If it matters, I think the original glue was Casein. It's crystalline and brittle, but not as dark as I'd expect from hide, and it doesn't...

    Chair repair (Sgian Dubh? Custard?)

I've been asked to repair some rather nice dining chairs, which were presented to the client's father on his retirement in the 1950's. They're 50s reproductions, so probably not too valuable financially, but of enormous sentimental value. I am, in the words of the client "the only chap I'd...

Old snooker table frame - what wood is this?

That certainly looks like mahogany to me. Julian, could your flooring have been teak? I have some (I believe) teak parquet which I would characterise as being like close grained, dense mahogany.

    Southern Yellow Pine workbench update

I'dips great, though I'd be cautious using the picture rail to hang a wood rack!

    Just use the blade guard!

I've removed the fronts from all my electrical fittings around the house and workshop, as it saves me valuable time if I want to inspect the wiring, or access the screw terminals to ensure they're tight. I'm sure I could get electrocuted when I turn the light on in the morning, but only if I...

Used them, very happy with the service and price.

Did you pocket hole project wobble then fall apart?

Also makes the best jobsite/workshop plasters when you stick a freshly sharpened chisel into a poorly positioned digit.

    Bringing goods from the EU

Possibly you've been lucky - back when I bought stuff from Stew Mac in the States semi-regularly, I had a good initial run of deliveries without attracting duty, followed by a much larger spell of getting hit with duty and admin fees which made a painful difference to my pocket.

Wardrobe back panel fixing - hidden fixings?

Pin the back to a rebate in the sides or use a thicker back material and pocket hole it to the sides.

    ABS worktop edging

I'm trying to find a source for a small quantity of ABS worktop edging, after my previous supplier went out of business. It's to match Omega Bushboard Maryland Fonce M003 worktop, Lawcris stock it, but it seems they only want to sell it in 70 metre rolls, which is rather more than I need to...
