Fitting latch in door mid rail?

The original lock mortices were presumably cut by the same folks who joined the doors, with a chain morticer, and the locks are designed to fit the shape of mortice created, with a radiused end, not the square shape of most mortice locks.

Fitting latch in door mid rail?

A tube latch is a non-issue, especially on a chipboard door. I have, however, seen many people fit a mortice lock in line with the centre rail of a properly joined panel door, completely removing the tenon, and removing any strength from the joint, and consequently many suppliers recommend...

    Alcove cabinets

Excellent job, hard to see what you could do to improve it.

CNC MFT... is there a top and bottom face?

If you're getting or if square results, I'd try a fresh blade. Even a slightly dull blade seems to deflect away from the rail and compromise squareness.

    Drilling Hardened Steel

Bosch multi construction bits with sharpened tct tips. They'll do it no trouble. **edit** Misread and thought you were drilling circa 13 6mm holes. 13mm is quite large, I think they'll still do it, but with that many holes you might need a few bits, or learn to touch up the edges with a...

    Mr Venty ECO2 wall filters.

I'm afraid I've never looked at the filters, though judging by info further up the thread I probably should. If I get to it before you I'll let you know how it pans out!

    Mr Venty ECO2 wall filters.

For what it's worth, a Mr. Venty absolutely transformed my friends 1950s solid walled masionette. Previously it was blighted with mould which appeared almost overnight. I helped him seal all the airbricks, and trim doors to allow air movement between rooms, as recommended by the installer...

    Mouldy MDF shelving in shed

Interesting. I've seen quite a few reviews for the chipboard shelves which complain of mould, and several suppliers recommend varnish on the shelves to avoid this. Looks like it's the environment of a shed, rather than the specific material.

    Mouldy MDF shelving in shed

Is this MDF or chipboard, which is generally supplied with those sectional metal shelf units?

Herringbone veneered cabinet top - glue suggestions

Thanks for all the replies, PVA looks like it's leading the running at the moment, but least as I have plenty already. Heres a look at what I'm planning - these blocks are currently 3-4mm thick, sawn from 9mm thick blocks.

Herringbone veneered cabinet top - glue suggestions

Thanks for the reply - your table was beautifully done, fantastic result. I may have missed it, but I couldn't find the thickness of MDF you used, or the adhesive in your thread? I have considered poly glue, but I'm wary of its tendency to foam and separate unclamped joints. The fingers of...

Herringbone veneered cabinet top - glue suggestions

I am planning to make a run of built in cabinets 3 metres long. I am hoping to make the cabinet top from teak/iroko finger parquet which used to be the flooring in my hall. The plan is an 18mm MR MDF ground, veneered with the parquet ripped to circa 3mm, in a herringbone pattern. I'm after...

    Screwfix website not accessible

Give this man a prize! Looks like this is a Plusnet issue, as switching from wifi to 4G magically fixes the problem.

    Screwfix website not accessible

Is anyone else unable to see the screwfix website? I get what seems to be a DNS error when I try to go there, both by following links or manually entering the URL. My wife has the same issue on her phone. It's been nearly a week now, and I find it inconceivable that a large retailer could...

Routing - Why use Guide Bushes instead of bit + bearing

Cost of cutter, and ability to adapt depth of pass to the material being cut, rather than having to take a deep pass to engage the bearing.

Now I dont think this will be a problem but...

I used a palm router and a mitre cutting bit to add a .5mm mitre to the tops of my MFT top (purchased from CNC designs). It was very quick, and did it very well.

    Knob replacement

I've made smaller D shaft knobs from wood by drilling a round hole, then gluing in a small piece to create the flat edge of the D. As a quick fix this looks like 10 minute job with a plywood scrap, hole saw and some mitrebond/CA glue. No ideas on a source for a "proper" replacement, sorry.

An Excavator for the Great Grandson

Superb. Not for the first time, you've made me feel like a terrible Dad for not having made one of these for my boys. Maybe when I'm a grandparent I'll find the time!
