    Bletchley Park

Yep. Excellent stuff, albeit a bit superficial if you've read up much on the subject. The maths eludes me as my brain isn't wired that way, but the technical achievements and raw smarts on display is amazing. Such as shame so many involved ended up treated poorly, not least Alan Turing.

    bass guitar

The early rick instruments had a pickup which wrapped around the strings, comprised of 2 horseshoe shaped magnets. Modern ricks use a pickup which is designed to look similar, but (IIRC) isn't actually a horseshoe pickup. The chrome cover is mostly for use as a handrest.

Double sided tape, what to buy ?

I find that the 3M stuff sticks like S**t to a blanket and releases cleanly (most of the time). I used it a lot for guitar router templates and rarely had trouble with movement or sticky residue.

The Only Way Is Essex (car boot)

IIRC that veritas originally came from a tool shop in Enfield - Gill & Hornby used to be next to Bushill Station. Cracking little shop, which sadly closed down about 5 or 6 years ago.

    My first plane restoration

wood is a vascular structure, and when you cut through it, you reveal the ends of the long fibres, and the gaps between them. Sanding never makes them go away, as when you sand away the surface you are constantly revealing more gaps. The frequency, size and shape of the pores varies from...

    My first plane restoration

If you want to fill the pores, wet sand with the rtu-oil, it'll create a slurry which fills them right up.

    Sharpening chisels

For chopping mortices and rough work, a mirror finish is pointless, but for cutting perfect mitres on fine detail trim pieces it's really helps judge angles. Horses for courses...

    A Simple Small Night Stand

That's exactly the kind of thing I need to make - it may take a while to get round to it, but I'll post pics of the finished item when it's done. Thanks for the link!

    Upvc doors

You may well need a special short door viewer for a uPVC door, as the panels in the middle are quite thin compared to a 44mm timber door.
