Looking for old, wide board of true mahogany

The pews in my local Methodist church were mahogany, and I've got a couple of loooong boards stashed away in my parents garage, and lots of smaller bits in my garage wood store. The Church dates back to the sixties, and the bits I've played with look and behave much like genuine, rather than...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

A double whammy of kitchen organising and clearing space in the garage. About 5 years ago I built this breakfast bar type thing so we would have somewhere to eat meals in a relatively civilised fashion. Note the rounded corner on the RH end, this is because the unit next to it has been...

London Tool fair 29 Feb/1 March

Thanks for the heads up - I took my Dad today and we had an enjoyable mooch around. You did better then us with the swag - I think it's a smart tactical move to go on the 1st day when everyone is flush with goodies!

    Ghetto Vacuum Clamping

I've been cleaning up a shed-load of teak finger-parquet blocks for a project, and thought the jig I came up with might be useful to others. It's an offcut of 2"x6" with a shallow mortise the size of a single parquet block chiselled into the top face. A hole suiting my 35mm vacuum hose was...

Why isn't there a reasonably priced eclipse-style honing guide?

Have you searched eBay for an original eclipse jig? I bought one a few years back to give as a gift, in pretty much mint condition, and IIRC quite reasonably priced.

    Shelving spanning a 3m gap

How deep is the shelf going to be? Will it be attached/supported along the back edge? (If there's a bulletproof lintel this might be tricky) A relatively shallow shelf, fully supported along the back will need far less meat at the front to do the job. Additionally, a utilitarian garage shelf...

A modest effort compared to some of the brilliant work showcased recently, but here's my latest litle project. A fruitless effort to organise the clutter drawer under the hob. 3mm ply which IIRC was packing material for an order of veneered MDF circa 20 years ago.

    Window joint scribing

Wow! Lovelylooking job, and totally supports the earlier comments about the sections and design being reminiscent of stone work.

Withdrawn Clarke BJ600 Biscuit Jointer £45

I've got one of these. The dust port is a strange square shape, but I use a bit of 20mm electrical conduit to attach to my vacuum via a Mirka sander hose. It works perfectly.

Best grab adhesive for MDF to MDF

If you're sticking MDF to MDF then you can use woodglue combined with a few spots of CA glue (aka superglue, mitrebond) to give you instant adhesion while the woodglue sets.

    Window joint scribing

Nothing helpful to add, but wanted to say how much I've been enjoying watching this project, both here and on the other place. Thanks for sharing!

Very true, and much like making your own tools, it gives you a little extra enjoyment every time you use it.

What is the best Emulsion paint ?

I painted the wall behind my kitchen sink with dulux easy-care kitchen, and it's impressively wipeable, and still respectably matt looking. It's a bit spendy, but I'm pretty happy with how easily I've removed dirty marks, splashes from washing up etc. You can use it over a generic emulsion and...
