Post a photo of the last thing you made

Don't suppose you know what the flooring is Bob? I'm looking for something similar for when I get my extension done. Lovely work as ever.

    Stair advice, please.

Well, obviously the solution we're steering towards is secret dovetailing the joint. Might be a tad labour intensive, but with Mike's work rate..... :D

    Avoiding glue ridges.

Lots of guitar makers still opt to make critical stressed joints like the bridge to soundboard, or headstock scarf using hide glue, or fish glue, precisely because titebond creeps. The only reason for using titebond or other aliphatics over hide glue (in luthiery) is convenience.

    Fixing handrail brackets.

Ah - I didn't know these were still available They're very useful!

    Fixing handrail brackets.

I'd want a bare minimum of 50mm of screw in the wall, in a brown plug. I'd be happier with a fixing long enough to fully engage 2 brown plugs end-to-end down a suitable depth hole - probably 7 65-75mm. I wouldn't use frame fixings for this, you want to be able to pull three rail right...

Is this a binding or advisory referendum?

I have learnt something new today

    “F” clamps

You can bear down harder on a cranked handle, but they can be awkward when using lots of clamps on a small object, as the neighbouring clamp can foul the swing of the handle.

    Kitchen units....

Diy kitchens are very nice quality, and very reasonably (And transparently) priced. I've fitted a couple of Howdens kitchens, and I found them underwhelming compared to the Diy kitchen I installed at home. Thinner doors, thinner edging on shelves and carcasses, and foil doors, vs the diy...

    Where does fraud start?

The quote high for jobs you don't want is a terrible idea - they always accept, and if you've an ounce of moral fibre, you then feel compelled to do a really good job to justify the ludicrous price. It's then that you remember why you didn't want the job in the first place, and that you...

    Intercom / Monitors etc.

I got a £16 BT baby monitor when my little boy was born, and it was brilliant - good battery life & great audio quality, and I've popped to the neighbours 2 doors down without any reception issues.

    Odd door hinge placement?

The top hinge of a closed door is under tension, the bottom under compression. Off-setting the middle hinge towards the top helps prevent the top hinge working loose or pulling out.

    worx 20 volt drill

The sudden stop is just the nature of the beast with Lithium Ion batteries, they all do it. It's actually much better than slooooo-wwwwwlllly becoming useless, provided you have batteries charged and ready to swap over. The chuck issue is familiar, but may slowly sort itself - my new Dewalt...

    Congratulations

I've been getting a message repeatedly popping up to say a redirect had been blocked, and that was annoying enough!

Help fixing a euro hinge with plastic fitters in the cabinet

Often hinges will be fitted with normal wood screws into a small plastic plug - like a rawlplug for chipboard. If these pull out they can be hard to refit, but I find a euro-screw is often a good fit in the remaining hole. https://www.screwfix.com/p/hinge-screws ... pack/89259 Check your...

    Fitting square edged laminate worktops

I did a u-shaped kitchen with these at the end of last year, and the customers are very happy. I removed the edging using an undersize bearing on a flushtrim router cutter, and a sharp chisel in the corners.

    Drilling and Tapping Up

The bar is case hardened, so the outer surface is extremely hard to drill. Try using a Bosch multipurpose drill bit, which is a TCT bit like a masonry bit, but sharp, and drill a shallow, oversize hole on each side of the bar. You should then be able to drill through the bar with a normal...

    need a new battery drill

I've generally been pretty impressed with the quality of the worx stuff I've handled, enjoy your new toy!

    need a new battery drill

The pack i got came with 3 x 3.0 amp hour batteries, which seemed like a no-brainer, I battery for each tool and 1 on charge, plus they're not as heavy as the larger batteries. I agree that the battery life is astonishing. I've probably only charged mine 3 or 4 times since I bought them...

    need a new battery drill

I got the same Dewalt kit as Mike, but with 3 batteries and metal Chuck, from screwfix at the end of last year. I've been really happy with it, tons of grunt, compact and light weight. Big step up from the Ryobi +1 drill and impact driver I was using before.
