Clarke Shhh 2/9 air compressor won't start!

Could the oilyness be seeping from a capacitor in the switch box? If it won't run I'm surprised by the air hissing, could it be something else you're hearing?

    Foiled again

Yep, rare earth magnet to find a row of screws. Works a treat.

Long alcove shelves - design question.

I have a customer enquiring about some alcove shelves to fit a 1.9m wide alcove. They will probably be used as book shelves, at least in part, so potentially quite heavy loading. The design they have suggested is a fairly conventional looking alcove shelf, which I would normal build as an...

    Honing Guide

I use the original eclipse, previously owned by my father & grandfather. Eclipse originals are still available, and are far superior to the clones produced today. I paid £12.50 for an immaculate example a couple of years ago, as a gift for my brother.

    Trimming a door.

Can you post a picture of the door, just so we can see what it appears O be made of? I can't recall coming across melamine or laminate faced doors on anything other than furniture, despite working in a very door-centric job for 10 years. If nothing else it'll satisfy my curiosity :)

    Dowel.co.uk - Anybody used them?

Further digging led me to the conclusion they're a scam. I went elsewhere, and recommend anyone else steer clear.

    Hancock's Half Hour

I think Chris was making a point about Toby Young's relationship to free speech, namely that it's great when it's his free speech, but rather less important when it's voicing an opinion he disagrees with.

    Dowel.co.uk - Anybody used them?

Does anybody have any experience buying from Dowel.co.uk? They have a keen price on some bits I need for a customer job, and I think I've heard folks mention them before on here, but the website causes a security warning pop-up on my browser, and has a number of broken links and the like which...

    Drills through anything!

Bob, those Bosch multi construction bits are excellent. If you rounded them then you were drilling something exceptionally tough which needed diamond. I've run those through hardened steel which i couldn't touch with an angle grinder, and any number of porcelain tiles. I find it...

    I like fixing things

If you're keen to learn, take it apart again to investigate further. When you reassemble it, and it's stopped working again , *now* you've definately learned something!

    question for kitchen fitters

In not certain I've understood the question - are you wanting to remove them, tidy them up, or rationalize them somehow?

    Boot prints in Felt roof

Thanks Spragnut - that's exactly what I was after, and exactly what the builder had said now I've had a chance to talk to him. He's going to get some chippings from the roofer and roll it down.

    Boot prints in Felt roof

My builder (lovely chap, careful, tidy worker etc) has just had to add a lead flashing to my extension roof, as local BC weren't satisfied with the felt flashing his roofer installed. Unfortunately, in working on a boiling hot day, in the midday sun, he's left some pretty hefty boot prints in...

    Hancock's Half Hour

I have teacher friends. Teachers are already working from home, and on rotas in schools to teach the kids of keyworkers. In some cases, they're also trying to home school or mind their own kids as well. There is also zero contradiction between applauding those who risk their lives or...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

Bm101 - if that's a log cabin, be careful fixing components across multiple "logs" as seasonal movement will cause problems. My cabin varies significantly in height between hot summer and winter, and constraining that movement is asking for trouble...

    Curved kitchen cupboard doors

Dr.Bob had posted some excellent stuff on how he makes curved doors, and this thread is one example - good info from custard too. curved-kitchen-doors-t111626-15.html This isn't the thread I was looking door, maybe some more searching will bring that up

    How to tackle this

You can even use a hammer if you're no mallet to hand. Still only a 2 minute job. Depending on how hard the achitrave is, you can sometime just do up the hinge screws and sink the knuckle into the architrave by compression.

Have I killed my cheap PERFORMANCE POWER pressure washer ?

Problem with the water supply, either a link in the hose or no pressure.

    The Lockdown Haircut Blues

I cut my wife's hair with the kitchen scissors. Miraculously, she's happy and I'm still alive. Strange times indeed.
