Ooh a mystery saw! Go on, give us a clue.... (welcome btw)

    Slightly restricted planer suggestions

Not used a record power planer but I'd say the quality of the Jets is....good. The castings are flat and heavy enough, and the sheetmetal body is very solid and rigid too, which is especially important if you're moving it about like I have to. The thicknessing table is rigidly supported and...

    Slightly restricted planer suggestions

I don't know that machine but I think normally the feed rollers are sprung, and you can adjust the spring tension/preload a little... To the OP, you mentioned some 10" machines but not the Jet JPT260 - less of a price hike than the JPT310 for similar quality and a small footprint (min 500x1130)

Is there a definitive pillar drill - new or used - that is better than the Bosch PBD40 for the same money?

Get the Bosch, I know lots of people with it and all are happy. I have an old Meddings and for 10yrs have planned to service the quill which has a ton of runout. I'd do the same again, but this time I'd make sure I could examine it before buying. If you get the old iron bug you can do that...

Can I make all usual structures with just wood from my small woodland?

Willow is a water margin tree and pretty common, but there are other trees that have catkins. This time of year it might be hazel or alder https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2018/12/which-trees-have-catkins-and-how-to-tell-them-apart/...

Anyone got a suggestions for cutting 6-8mm thick perspex

What he said, plus if you can slow the blade down that'll help. I've used my tracksaw before because of the speed control. Too much heat melts the edge, and can even heal the cut behind a jigsaw blade which is...unhelpful..

Can I make all usual structures with just wood from my small woodland?

About pallets: Some pallets are better than others if you want to cut them or burn them: https://www.universalpallets.com/2018/01/ultimate-guide-pallet-markings/ Pallets are reusable packaging, but are often discarded esp if damaged, or in places where their value isn't important. As has been...

What have I stumbled into? Should this conversation be had round a casino table in 1969 or something?

Sedgwick MB rise and fall damage

Ha, not sure mine would measure up! It's officially just a solum, but I managed to get standing height in one 3m corner and poured a slab; it's the Tool Room / garden shed / dumping ground. My neighbour two doors uphill has full height under the whole house - v jealous!

For Sale For sale: 240V JET JOSS-S bobbin sander

Great machine, bought new from Axminster in 2020 but only had a few hours of DIY use since then - turns out I don't sand many curves - and it's time to free up some space in my garage. It's in excellent condition - most of the drums are unused and all the bits are there, and it works perfectly...

Sedgwick MB rise and fall damage

Thanks, I def will need the concentricity if I'm machining over 3/4 because that's the bore of the lathe :) So far though I've only managed to roughly level it and get the blasted b*ggering drive belt threaded (it had to be split to get in the cellar - or Tool Room as I'm now calling it). I...

    Some mistake, surely?

Yep it's 32. The units are different sizes (9F=5C) and the zeros are in different places (32F apart).

Mine are in the workshop on the shelf marked 'wadkin' :)

Maybe he can unearth a suitable stone and put an edge on the side of his chisel? How big is it?

Sedgwick MB rise and fall damage

Thanks, hadn't thought of looking at imperial sizes. Yes the indicator is just a pointer, and yes it was the effort I was concerned with - that and the rather flimsy-feeling plastic crank. The lathe does screwcutting, though it remains to be seen whether I can... Right, I now have several...
