    Wanted Strimmer

We have the 40V Greenworks strimmer and the pole saw that takes the same battery. I can't fault it, we use it in our garden and allotment. They do a 60 volt range including a brush cutter, I should imagine that would be a beast. Here's a link to their range...and no, I have nothing to do with...

    Some progress..

It's brilliant kids being interested in what grown ups are doing (not digitally) but in an old analogue way. They soak it up and it comes out when they're a bit older. Looking forward to seeing the log store completed, I think I may have to redesign ours when I retire at the end of the year...

Circular saw base, steel or aluminium

I have an Evolution circular saw with aluminium base and also have their mitre saw with aluminium base. I must say I've never dropped mine so wouldn't know about bending it back into shape. Both saws have done what I've asked of them and I'm pleased with them. I've had them for about 4 years...

That's coming along nicely! It beats the log store my son and I made from pallets.

Serious help needed from any guitarist

Rather than standard tuning ie: E A D G B E try an open G tuning where the strings are tuned from the thick 6th string down - It plays a chord when when strummed with open strings :) D (lowest string, tuned down a whole step from E) G (tuned down a whole step from A) D (stays the same) G...

    Hourglass with case

I made my son an hourglass made from Yew and brass columns. I've then made a case for it made out of offcuts of Mahogany, Teak, Oak and spalted Beech. It's lined with plush green velvet with an old art nouveau handle on top. I'm new to woodworking so please be kind

    Thickness planer

Hi, I can't give advice on what planer/thicknesser to go for however; if you need to get a machine down into your cellar you may want to avoid a largish solid cast table. I have the Axminster AW106PT and you wouldn't want to move that down some stairs. I'd say weight of the machine could be a...

Cutting and bending 6mm sheet steel on a budget

I agree with Clogs, don't use a hammer and vice to bend 6mm steel cold. You'll either end up as he says with something that's not a right angle or a damaged vice if it's not made for heavy work. I'd be tempted to get them made somewhere if you don't have the equipment.

    New Charnwood drum sander

I've been in the shed this morning having a better play with the drum sander. I agree the material for the belt is rather smooth and shiny, it doesn't grip the workpiece well enough. After some experimentation I've come up with a fix (God knows how long it will last) I used clear skateboard grip...

    New Charnwood drum sander

I received my Charnwood drum sander yesterday. My son and I also put the wrong legs on the base and had to take them apart again...oh how we laughed. We also had nuts with no threads but like you I had plenty in stock. I only had chance to start it up and was surprised how quiet it is. The belt...

    Advice for planer thicknesser please

I've decided to go for a new rolling base with better wheels in the first instance rather than go for a smaller PT as there doesn't seem to be a decent one

    Advice for planer thicknesser please

Hi Baldkev, thanks for the info. I actually saw those ones on Amazon and was considering a wheel change to see if it's easier to move around. I think I'll try that before selling my PT, worth a go. Thanks
