    Help evaluating old blade

When you have cleaned it, before using it check all the teeth have crisp edges and no chips or are missing if they are worn or damaged it will need Togo to the doctors. the 24 tooth saw is a rip saw. If it is sharp and clean it will rip your 2x4 birch studding

    Help evaluating old blade

It needs a good clean. Also it is a fine toothed blade for either cross cutting or cutting sheet material. It is not a rip saw blade

    Bench drill - Bosch PBD40

MikeG I only use it for woodworking but having used some large Forster bit holes with no problem, I was sufficiently impressed to get rid of my 82kg drill press which was not accurate or easy to use properly. A change of speed meant faffing with pulleys and belts. Now I rotate a knob and it will...

    Bench drill - Bosch PBD40

I have one and like it so much I sold my traditional drill press. The only fault other than colour is the wheel rather than lever to operate it. I have read complaints about a lack of accuracy but I have found it fine for woodworking

    Vintage Wood Machining Books

I cannot see any of the Radial Arm Saw books. Is this an oversight or are you avoiding a. USA books b. DIY I have several starting with Dewalt Powershop Handbook and The Magic of the Radial Arm Saw They are an entertaining source of what was considered good practice post war with a few toe...

Tools and machines for my workshop?

That sounds like a plan. I have the BS400 it is good strong bandsaw. It will take a large blade and fully tension it. You can also fit a very narrow blade 1/8th is the smallest I have. It has bearing guides not discs. My biggest complaint with it is the dust extraction is not good enough. There...

router that you can change blades

There must be better ways to die. That type of clamped cutter was banned from spindles thirty years ago and they only spin at 5-10,000RPM In a router that can go 30,000, I would not want to be anywhere near

Tools and machines for my workshop?

I use more oak than any other wood. You need a P/T but you do not need a spiral head. Oak is not that difficult grain

Tools and machines for my workshop?

MikeG, I agree that hand planing is a skill all woodworkers should possess and as an apprentice I was taught to face and edge timber and dimension it. I was also required to make all assessed pieces totally by hand. However if you want to make things with hardwoods a planer thicknesser will...

Tools and machines for my workshop?

In order to work with hardwoods you do need a planer thicknesser, however you do not need a spiral cutting head unless you work with very difficult hardwoods. I understand your noise concerns but I do think a spiral head is worth it. you could insulate the garage to reduce noise from all...

Are Grippers much safer than push sticks?

In the UK it is best to follow the considered advice of the Health and Safety Executive https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/wis16.pdf I appreciate not everyone is in a commercial setting but why ignore a good source of advice. A push stick or if you wish push sticks is the recommendation

    Bandsaw fences

It seems to be a European v USA thing to put the slot for the blade at the front rather than the side on current bandsaws. I agree a side slot would make far more sense. I would be very interested to see a picture or two when you have finished. As I said that was my original intent but not...

    Bandsaw fences

Roy, No it is on the front just only to the left. I originally planned the same as you but the only way I could see to achieve that was to cut the rail that fixes to the table in two so that the blade can slide through the gap. It would need another fixing location drilling but that is not a...

    Bandsaw fences

I have a Kreg fence on my BS400. I fitted it to the left of the blade. it is too big a faff to refit the rail every time you change the blade as you need to level it to the table. It is a good fence Very rigid. Get the micro adjuster as well.
