    Roof timber sizing

According to the tables you can use 4x2 for the rafters of pitched roof of that span. But as said if flat would need to be much deeper The other concern are the walls if they are built from pallets of say 3 or 4 feet long there is no strength to stop your rafters from spreading and collapsing...

    Flat roof detail

Just nail the stubs joists to the long joist. assuming you want the office to be quieter than the surroundings you need to fill the space between each rafter with something dense.

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

Steve two points first keep the voicemail preferably on your computer and make a transcript and date it. Second if you have his email address send him a very polite email thanking him for agreeing to reinstate the boundary. Obviously if the reinstatement is done, no problem but just in case...

    oak veneer doors

Yes I have several. But they do not have much fitting allowance before you hit the core. Check the specification for the allowance. You certainly cannot cut of 20 mm to allow for carpets. Also make sure you have three shredded wheat the day you hang them as they are by far the heaviest doors I...

    Morticer or Domino

Call me old fashioned but for external work I would not rely upon Dominoes and glue. A proper M&T wedged or pinned provides a mechanical joint long after the weather has caused the glue to fail. For internal work dominoes are brilliant.

    Axminster search facility

The purpose of my thread is not to discourage people from using Axminster it is to encourage Axminster to do something about the frustration of searching their website. As an example I paid £1.50 over the going rate for the dominoes once found as I want a firm like Axminster to survive

Strange the girl I spoke to at Axminster could not find them either! In future I will contact you and you can find it for me!

    Axminster search facility

Another search. Look for a pack of 10x 50 dominos for a DF 500. Eventually I rang them to find out that you will only find them if you know the axminster product code

    C16 rafters vs oak?

C16 is a structural stress graded timber. Oak can be structurally graded but you would need to buy the graded oak see http://www.trada.co.uk/faq/list/strengt ... d%20timber

    Bosch palm router.

When Bosch first launched this model it came only with the small square fixed base. So no round base, no plunge base, no angled base. I believe you can buy the accessories.

Internal solid wall and floor insulation advice

Two questions: Are there any signs of damp inside? Could you insulate from the outside by fixing insulation then rendering to the outside? You might be able to get a grant for some of this work from a Government scheme for energy efficiency.

    Axminster search facility

Andy As I spoke to Axminster about this over a week ago, and given they do care about customer feedback I think they may have changed the search facility. Hence the item required is number 2.

    Axminster search facility

A very wise Sage! Only search for something if you know what it is called on the website before you start your search that way you are bound to find it. The problem is in many parts of the world and when I did my apprenticeship it was called a bench brush.
