    Upgraded Dust Extraction

Over the last year or so I have come to the conclusion that my dust extraction system was inadequate. I had started out with a WV2 LVHP vacuum which are very good vacuums collecting small particles. However I was asking it to extract from my 16" planer thicknesses, a 12" table saw, spindle...

    which bandsaw

Another consideration is what power supply you have/can get. If you are limited to 13amp then the BS400 is about as big as you can get. If you have 16 amp the choices are greater. If you have 415 then the second hand market offers great choices.

Where to find aluminium profile for rip fence?

Dennis, as you wish. My aim was to understand the problem not start an argument. I thought if you shared the problem, the combined knowledge of this forum might be able to find a no cost solution for you.

    Tear-out in Oak boards

I also think it is down to the sharpness of the blades on your P/T. I have a terse block so would use a new set for a task like this. If the tearout is local I sometimes get a water spray bottle and just damp the surface in the effected area it softens the fibres just a little and makes them...

Where to find aluminium profile for rip fence?

Dennis, i do not get the complaint about ply. Mine is birch ply which I sanded and varnished. I use it mostly for ripping before planing but if I want to cut accurately, I can set it up to the precise size (as good as my eyes anyway). In the time from measuring from the saw blade to the fence...

Where to find aluminium profile for rip fence?

I do not understand why plywood is not accurate. I made a short fence out of Birch faced ply it is accurate enough for anything I am ripping.

    Timber Framing Book?

It is a bit of a sledge hammer to crack a nut. It is a great book on timber framed houses but...

    t-track cutter or laminate?

T track cutters are slow because of the shape you have to cut a groove and then slowly cut the wider groove. For most things I would laminate the groove or buy the track.

Steve's workshop - Painting the outside walls

Steve, the lack of things to make does not stop the rest of us from spending time in our caves! I am yet to get to the end of my list and even if I did I have a longer wish list of things I want to make just because I can. I thought your cave was also to be a studio for the production of the...

    Fixing for oak canopy

Traditionally they sit on a cantalevered stone that projects out of the wall. I would get some stainless steel rod and drill a hole and fix it with epoxy capsules into the wall and then attach the oak with a nut and washer

    cheapo pillar drill opinions

I bought a cheap but big Axichiwanese model. It is the only thing I have ever bought that I wish I sent back. It is enormous and very inaccurate. For a start there is nothing to hold the alignment so when you wind the table up and down it rotates around the pillar. The pulley cover had more...

    Plywood cladding and finishing

I am going to use Saddolin on my new Dust Extraction shed that I am building and cladding in WBP Ply. you need to cover the joints and end of the plywood and I would avoid horizontal joints as they will be water traps.

    Novice spindle molder question

Jacob, I hope that is an argument for training on both rather than no training because the TS is worse! Yes the book was revised in 2007 and comes with an endorsement from HSE

Online shop error, what to do.

Shed9 Are you speaking with someone in authority in the firm or just the admin person tasked with answering the phone or email. I find it difficult to believe that someone in authority knowing the facts would be telling you this. If it is someone in authority then it is time to involve the...

    Novice spindle molder question

In my view it should be compulsory for all people who use a spindle moulder to be fully trained on its use. I know some think this is a bit extreme but for safety reasons it should be compulsory. I would also recommend Eric Stephenson's book Spindle Moulder Handbook it is up to date and...

Online shop error, what to do.

At this stage I would not recommend going to the small claims court. The credit card company should resolve this satisfactorily. If they do not do so over the next 28 days then you might want to consider the options. The small claims court requires you to pay a fee (not insignificant) and...

Online shop error, what to do.

You should dispute the payment with your card provider. Especially that the shop accepts it is wrong. That gets the money back in your hands temporarily then you should tell the shop to arrange the collection of the goods at their expense. Put this in writing to them

    Spiral Duct to plastic Joiners

I had my drain pipes installed for 15 years and never earthed the system no problem ever. It is said to be a fire or even explosion risk

    Spiral Duct to plastic Joiners

Until recently I had a set up similar to DX5000 and ducted it with Drain pipe (which is excellent for dust extraction). Plus you can get adaptors from 115mm to 100mm I have just upgraded my entire system and installed 6inch spiral duct from Duct Online. Their prices were better than most.
