Router bits, buy cheap buy twice?

The thing with router cutters is they are lumps of sharp metal spinning at 30,000 RPM they do break from time to time. I want good quality so that the time to time is less frequent. My choice is Wealdon, some Trend and CMT. Price is a secondary consideration.

    Stanley 5001's

Don't! You will probably find the chisel does not have a tang more likely just a distorted round bar. Fine for moulding plastic but impossible to re handle with wood.

Jet DC1100A Extractor and Filter Cartridge

Mock I tested my extractor it was reading 4000ft/m and about 500cfm at the end of 9m of 150mm metal duct and 3m of 120 Flexi. The latter was varying between 450 and 500 but it copes with everything my 400mm planer, 315 saw and large spindle can throw at it so it is not lacking Hope this helps

Jet DC1100A Extractor and Filter Cartridge

I have about 9 meter run of 150mm with a slow bend and a y branch of about 2m in 100mm. I think I was at about 900cfm and 4000ft/m on the 150mm but I will recheck them and post the figures on here probably over the week end. I recall there was a massive difference on the 100mm. I have for some...

    Thicknesser / jointer

For a one man hobby set up a planer thicknesser makes sense especially if space is limited. You will never be using both at once and you plane a face and edge and then either rip to slightly oversize and then thickness or just thickness. The time to set up from planner to thicknesser is neglible.

Jet DC1100A Extractor and Filter Cartridge

I have been running mine since early this year and it is great. I can now extract everything from the table saw, spindle, and planner. My air quality is the best it has been in 15 years. My only complaint is it does not like small diameter pipe and I include 100mm duct in the definition of...

Anybody going to the European Woodworking show this weekend?

I saw books in several locations. Lost Art Press were on the stall next to Bill Carter. Ron Hock had a stack of his books that he was Autographing on his stall.

Anybody going to the European Woodworking show this weekend?

I quite liked the fact there was little machinery and it was all in the far barn I bought some of Chris Vesper's tools stunningly engineered that work great I agree it needs some proper masterclass/ clinics rather than having demonstrators there doing whatever. It was good to see so many new...

    Trad casement windows?

It is the 8 panes that put me off most if you use modern DG units then you need beefy 57mm sections if you then add three glazing bars. It is not looking pretty. You then have the weight of that and start thinking 100mm hinges. The weather can be overcome with seals and good quality multi...

    Tool Choices

A good quality No 5 plane or the low angle version. It took me years to understand this error The wood to build a good bench or the vice for a bench

    Dust Collection

If it is dust around the extractors then you need better filters. The problem is better filters equal less suction. The sort answer is you probably need a stronger machine. The cheapest good machine is the Jet with the 1 micron filter. The problem with adding a cyclone or drop box is you will...

When is a Disston saw not a Disston saw?

if you intend to use the saw once re handled/bladed then I see no problem. If you intend to sell it on as a pucka Disston then that raises questions which end up with you are at risk

Timber choices for a Moxon Vice.

Have you thought of building a small bench area behind the rear jaw then rather than it being just a vice it is a small high level bench and vice. you can then make the rear jaw from ply and the screw thread can be lost under the bench. Fine Woodworking did one but then just put a record vice...

    Axminster AW128PT thoughts? Need a jointer/planer

If you are minded to buy on the basis that it is a bargain not to be passed. Then ask 1. Does it have the Axi warranty (the Website suggests not!) 2. Can you fit table extensions? A 1500mm table is on the short side if you want anything over 2m to be straight

    Axminster AW128PT thoughts? Need a jointer/planer

Does not the current price, the fact it is being discontinued and the reviews on the Axminster site tell you enough?
