    Tuff saws rule.

Welcome to the Post Tuff Saws World. Next you will be ordering some spares so that you never go back to BTS.

    No. 3 Plane

I have a Bronze No 3 with a high angled frog which works very well, with the bonus that the high angle frog makes a bit more room for your knuckles.

    More on dust extraction

I use these http://www.axminster.co.uk/numatic-step ... cer-610325 but I am sure they never used to be that much! Also the rubber end on your Bosch hose unscrews (I think the wrong way round). If you take the rubber piece off the plastic threaded piece fits some Dewalt kit just as a tight push...

    Window wood?

Indigo can react with paint. I have seen and heard of problems with the paint on end grain reacting. But if not painted, stained Idigbo is a good choice.. Easy to work, cheap and not too heavy.

Joint placement question on timber frames.

If you want a definative answer Steve Chappell - A Timber Framer's Workshop seems to go into the structural engineering side of joint design. Sadly there is no short answer as he points out the first consideration is whether the joint is in tension or compression. Thereafter it is a long read...

Can you tell what it is yet?

Goat willow goes orange after felling, I took three down two years ago. I can now say it burns well!

    More on dust extraction

If you do go down the Bosch route, I have several of their extractors but not that one. The hose does attach to Festool very well and of you take the rubber end connector off will attach to Dewalt. I do not have any Makita so cannot comment

Spindle Moulder Groovers V Wobble Saw

I have a wobble saw which has served for years recently I bought a shim adjustable groover. The difference is the quality of finish. If you need high quality finish without jagged edges or working veneered board I would get the replaceable tipped either shim adjustable or dial in groover...

    More on dust extraction

With those sort of fine dust emitting tools I would go for a power tool vacuum machine with power tool take off such as the Bosch, Makita, Festool, Nilfisk etc high powered vacuum extractor and would probably get one rated class M rather than L. A bit more than the DX 1000 but ithey are...

What can i do with my offcuts?

Mike, I would be very interested to see the evidence base for this as everything I have read about European manufactured mdf says it is the wood dust that is the health risk. If there is serious problem with the level of formaldehyde in mdf I would like to know.

    Heads up on Axminster pricing

In fairness Axminster/Brimarc have seriously reduced the pricing of Veritas. Some items are actually now cheaper than in Canada  so well done for listening to our complaints.

    Huge Waterpoof Outdoor Bag

Storing wood in a waterproof bag is not a good idea unless you want to make compost. Yes you need to keep the rain of the wood but it needs to breath

    Raised panel help needed

A picture of what you want to achieve would help as there are several forms of raised panel, from false planted panels, raised and fielded panels or raised and fielded with bolection mould edges.

Does the method make a difference???

Whilst you are learning, I would not buy expensive waterstones or diamond plates. I was going to say get a good India oil stone but then I saw this http://www.axminster.co.uk/marples-irwi ... set-135088 That will serve you well. As you improve and the budget allows move to a better India...

Best solution for glazed door - glass mounting

The frame should have a rebate say 15 by 10mm with a moulded bead on the outside, 3 or 4mm glass and then 6mm quadrant bead on the inside tacked in place without breaking the glass.

Best Dust/Chip extractors for small workshop - Advice Please

if it is only servicing a table saw and not a planer then yes it is more likely a better choice. The problem is most of us have a range of machines and spend years looking for a single dust extractor solution.

Best Dust/Chip extractors for small workshop - Advice Please

The extract on my Suva guard is only 38mm. In the end I decided to put a dedicated vacuum on it so bought a Bosch L1200 when they were selling them off for £100 which I use for my Suva guard and tools such as the domino. When I compared the price to buying a Y piece and additional duct I...
