    Maxing out a Startrite 18 S 10 Bandsaw

Sorry, I know this is off topic but in that second photo, is that all the cuts needed to get quarter sawn timber? or was something else going on for all those cuts?

    My waterfall river tables

haha ingenious, I've never tried a resin table but it is on my bucket list of things to do. The videos I've seen show a blowtorch or heat gun being used over the resin to pop any air bubbles, did you do something similar or wasn't it a problem?

    My waterfall river tables

Wow, they are amazing. Like you said, I've also never liked that hard 90' sharp bend. I think you have come up with a brilliant design. How did you pour the resin? or is that your secret ;)

    My Chair

Really nice job. The leatherwork sets of the chair nicely. The legs look amazing, how did you make them? are they steam bent or laminated or something else? Any more photos of the build process, I would be really interested to see them. Cheers David

Moving workshop/transporting machines - any tips??

Just be careful with hiring a Luton van, the one I hired only had a payload of around 1000kg.( I don't know if other are more) I only found this out after offering to remove the contents of a deceased relative garage, and loaded it to the gunnels, the trip back with virtually no breaks was...

    How long?

I had a modern Startrite 352 which I think is a similar build to your machine. I had left it tensioned up for a year or so and hadn't use it. The next time I turned it on, the wheel tyres disintegrated with quite a spectacular noise! If you are using the bandsaw regularly, you probably don't...

    Off my nut

Blimey, I wish I could write so clearly after 1 glass of port never mind 3 bottles 🤪 Have you tried Solpadol, the soluble one sorts me out were aspirin and paracetamol don’t touch me. It’s probably not your way, it’s certainly not mine but have you tried being pushy and not taking no for an...

    Security Marking Tools

At work we have a garden machinery barn that keeps getting hit by thieves. They go after leaf blowers, chainsaws, hedge trimmers etc. What amazed us was they got the stuff outside the shed, and 2 of the pieces that had our postcode written on them in large letter with indelible ink were left...

    Tuffsaw bandsaw blade type advice

If you are using recycled wood and the super tuff are working okay, would it be better to have 2 cheaper blades for the price of M42 blade, then if you do hit a nail or similar at least you're not ruining an expensive blade.

    Wood punch branding tool

Have you looked at www.hamilton-rand.co.uk I inherited a good few wooden hand planes that had my grandfather and great grandfathers names stamp on them and thought it would be fun to add my name on them as well. I think it cost me £100 for the stamp and it produces pretty much the result in your...

    another mft question

I've had the mft3 for donkey years, it has lived out in a shed that is unheated and gets damp in winter. I've not had any problems with the holes changing shape, the 20mm dogs I have got always seem to fit snuggly.

    Ageing copper

Have you looked at Antiquing fluid - John Penny Restoration has it on their website. We had to lift some floorboards in a grade 1 listed building that had been down for donkey years due to a leak in the pipe work underneath. The boards had cup pretty badly, so we kerfed the back of the boards...

    Joke thread

What’s the difference between a cabinet maker, a carpenter and a chippy? a cabinetmaker works to the nearest thousands of an inch, a carpenter works to the nearest mm and a chippy works to the nearest house!

This bit of timber was bent, split and rotted....

Crumbs that's amazing! Out of interest do you have an idea of what you want to carve or does the wood 'talk to you' as it were, and you can see that shape/design within the wood?

Spb1 (my first electric bass guitar build)

Fantastic looking guitar. I really like the choice of wood, there is something about wormy Maple, that for me, is really intriguing. 4 years!!! Hmmmm I must look through my wood shavings, you have reminded me that I'm sure I have a couple of projects that I got the hump with and chucked to one...

    Festool ROS Broken, advice needed

I have a festool ETS150 and had a problem with it start/stopping/not working at random times. I found that one of the pins on the sander that the power lead attaches too was dirty/blackened. I cleaned this up and have not had a problem since. Might be worth a look.

    Source of highly figured maple.

If Johnyb doesn't pan out have you looked at Surrey timbers? They have some of their stock online but lots that aren't, it might be worth a call. If you ever happen to be passing its well worth a visit they have some really amazing boards.

    HC-260 Uneven planing

I have this problem sometimes, and for me it's that I am chasing/keep planing the bow in the wood and not planing it flat. I have started to pass the first inch or so over the blades then gently drop the work onto the blades, then stop and inch from the rear end. I do this a couple of times...
