    Invisible glued joint

I tend to use Titebond Original, which is easily cleaned up with a slight damp sponge at the time of glue up. I've never noticed any glue lines/marks using it.

Why do we get such a limited choice of planers/machines in the UK?

Are you dead set on 8", I have a 12" planer thicknesses and would struggle with that size with the boards I buy these days. Have you looked at 1 phase to 3 phase converters? I know its an additional cost but miles cheaper than getting 3 phase installed, if you are able to in the first place. It...

    Let’s play a game

Maybe the prospective buyer thinks your advert is a scam!!! I was playing your game of what I can see, but what I did notice was how clean your room is, no sawdust, barely any dust, it just can't be right.....could I trust buying something out of a workshop that tidy. ;) Take no notice, I'm...

    Flattening a small door...

We have a 3 dining table that combine to make one large table at work that has big leafs that folds down, one of the tables is left in front of a radiator when we don't need a big table. This leaf in front of the radiator started to get a big bow in it. We eventually worked out what was going on...

    Cabinet material for outdoor kitchen?

Could you use epoxy resin under your varnish? Then the quality of your wood wouldn't be as important as it would be (hopefully) waterproof. I've not tried it yet but I was going to give it a try on a future project trade-secret-save-time-varnishing-first-sealing-timber-epoxy

Straight edge for jointing, best method

I've just been joining some 1800 long boards together this morning. My jointer is about a metre in length and I knew it would make the boards concave along their length because I always do it when they re that long. But it gave my a start that was close, I think it was about 1mm concave. I...

Any plumbers? Am I out of touch?

cost-guide-plumbers The link above is to 'Which' guide to plumbing costs. They reckon £150+ Cost of tap if isolation valves are needed. I'm near Hungerford so not that far from Guildford and the estate I work at has big problems trying to get hold of plumbers and the cost is very high to what...

    Clamping/ Press advice

My first go in veneering, I built a press out of thick MDF board, a bit bigger than A4 and screwed 4 pieces of angle iron on to each side to keep it flat. In use the veneer board went into the press then it was clamped together on the angle iron. Worked well, though a little fiddly juggling 8...

    Which paper towel?

I've started using Scott multipurpose shop towel that was recommended somewhere on the web for taking off/polishing in Monocoat. It works fantastically, doesn't leave any lint or dye behind. Halfords sell it by the roll if you want to try it, I get it from Amazon now, I think it was £32 for 10...

    old hand tools

Nothing wrong with that. I find time is my enemy, I use power tools to quickly get me close to finish and then often use hand tools to finish. I think it's the finished piece that counts and that you made it yourself. I know a very good antique furniture restorer who use a lot of power tools...
