Well done to all, not sure how I got to 4th place I'm still gob smacked! I was hoping I would get to the end of the year with 12 points, which would of meant I had tried to turn 12 different projects which I probably wouldn't of thought of trying. Thank you to the orginisers and judges of...

March 2012 Challenge ( Upload Images Here) A Tazza

Hi, This is my cake stand entry. This was a prototype made out of some left over oak, sadly work commitments meant I ran out of time for making another, which I was planning to make out of different timber. It is 200mm high by 200mm diameter. Sanded from 120 to 600, Finish with food safe...

    Magma Titan 400 ( the videos )

What a horrible looking lathe, I've got to say that along with the mantra ....I don't want one, I don't want one, I don't want one...... I don't know who am I trying to kid. If I spent that type of money on a lathe I think the Mrs would be off.....Another good reason to buy one

Long and fairly thin dowel ...

Rather than using a lathe could you do it with hand tools. From square stock, make it into an octagon, then use a spoke shave to shape into a circle?

February Challenge ( The Results and comments )

I would like to thank the organisers of this competition, its pushed me to turn things I wouldn't dream of doing. Also competing against some unbelievable turners has made me raise my game, and where I still have a long way to go, I feel my work is starting to improve, so thank you to all...

February Challenge ( Rules and Requirements ) ENTRIES

Boy oh boy what a challenge. I lost count of how many ideas would have probably fallen outside the rules. Here is my entry, spiky balls. Not too sure how I got to the final design, but it started by trying to suspend the main ball onto spikes. I tried to incorporate the ball theme into the...

    Button Jaws.

I don't know if it is worth giving them a call. I wanted to buy something that was out of stock, yet when you click on the 'pick from store' button it showed they where in stock in various stores and I was passing High Wycombe and picked one up. I have just had a looked and High Wycombe and...

In defence of the silent, or - my excuse for not commenting

I am a member of another forum to do with electrics, they have a 'thanks' button and a 'like' button that you can toggle and it registers your vote which is displayed under the post in question. I don't know how easy/hard it is to add things like this to a forum, but maybe this could allow you...

    The Turning Quest 2012

Thanks for the info. very informative. Does the sanding jig just keep the sandpaper at 90 Degrees? or is it in the shape of the curve your trying to create. Sorry for all the questions, I am just impressed but bewildered how you get the gaps between the curves so tight.
