If you love walnut and are of a sensitive disposition, look away now!

Not sure this is much of an answer . . . . the garden table, and bench, I made a couple of years ago used new 2.4m scaffold boards from Wickes so hardly timber of the finest quality. The table is 2,200mm x 1,150mm (4 complete width boards, and one trimmed on the width- fitted in the centre - so...

Advice for painting outdoor metal light fittings

IME powder coat on outdoor metal "dulls down" after a while . . . the go-to is usually Hammerite paint - in either the original crackly finish or the smooth finish. That seems to repel the weather (as long as any raw edges are painted, and retains the sheen.

Find me - A single cordless drill cheap cheap cheap

+1 for this - excellent tool and good value

Track saw rails . . . which one works for my saw?

I haven't got round to buying anything yet! - I've been doing quite a bit of work that was easier with a normal cordless circular saw and a straight-edge for short-ish cuts. Next time I visit a friend of mine I'm going to try my plunge saw on his Makita rails (and I think he has an Evolution...

Lots of De Walt levels, Stanley toolboxes etc etc

Be aware that with John Pye auctions the price you pay is almost 50% more than the hammer price for buyer's commisison + VAT . . . and probably carriage on top of that. Often makes a mockery of prices.

    Woodworkers' Guild of America

. . . and don't be taken in by the Ted's Woodworking scam either! [TedsWoodworking© The World's Largest Database of 16,000 Woodworking Plans and Projects] - another bait and switch type site. There ARE some sites with excellent plans, and available for free or very little cost - you just need...

    Woodworkers' Guild of America

Avoid - you'll get endless emails (more than 1 a day!) to try and get you to spend money. The "content value" is less than minimal IMHO

    Poor quality from ManoMano

Agreed on the Banggood item - I've got quite a few of their "Woodpecker style products" and they are up to scratch

    Poor quality from ManoMano

In the spec it come with "1 x hole opener" ?? - I wonder if that's the chuck key? There is an identical tool on Banggood for about £50 - with 80+% 5 star reviews - it says it's aluminium allow and it looks it from the threaded holes in the pictures.

    Poor quality from ManoMano

Having captured the two pictures in a graphics program and massively enlarged them it does appear that the pictures are one and the same with the Woodpecker brand edited out - the exact same pattern on pixels on some of the detail is a giveaway. ... I have to say that I never cease to be amazed...

    Poor quality from ManoMano

Stable door and the horse - but ManoMano should be avoided at all costs IME - bait & switch, poor quality, high prices etc.

Rutlands DK6680 Air Filter fault – can anyone help?

Are you sure it's not the remote controller? - I have what looks like exactly the same machine branded Record and had quite a few issues with the speed setting etc until Record sent me a new remote.

    Iron on Edge banding

If you were using nice Birch ply then exposed edges are very attractive IMHO

    Iron on Edge banding

I'd go for edging with wood every time rather than the paper-thin edge-banding tape - the slightest knock and the tape stuff chips and looks awful.

    Birch ply alternatives

The recent project was a dining table with exposed edges - the Stretek was fine with thin veneers almost the same as good Birch (it's 2 x 18mm laminated together and trimmed/sanded to "lose the join"

Net abrasive in a specific size

Absolutely - the Abranet is listed (at a bait and switch price) but not available anywhere - as suggested TS is notorious for doing this with all manner of products. Where I live there are Screwfix and Toolstation stores about 1/4 mile apart - the (only) upside at TS is that you get served by a...

Net abrasive in a specific size

That's just the ticket - I can cut it to size . . . a little confused as my local Mirka dealer lists the rolls but only the 10m lengths at £64. Amazon price per metre is the same - I've got a roll of 120g in my basket to send off an order (and free delivery too)

    Birch ply alternatives

My "timber guru" chum described it as "slightly better than OSB" !!! - not impressed. I've just made a table with Stretek ply (18mm, poplar faced) - it works well although the "grain" isn't as pronounced as top-grade Birch which is what I really wanted. Robin Clevett on YT has just done some...
