    Mini CNC machine

After lots of reading and watching YouTube stuff today I have splashed out - but rather than buying from Aliexpress or Banggood I ordered from Amazon (at a modest premium on the price) on the basi that if it's no good it's no big deal to send it back and get a refund. BUT, I'm pretty positive...

Post a photo of the last thing you made

If you watch The Repair Shop from Weds 10 March you'll see Suzi with a leather watch strap in a clam as she was sewing it.

A non-oily silicone spray keeps stuff rust-free for me (or at a pinch Pledge type furniture polish)

Looking for inspiration for your next project?

The white table in the first clip where the panels store in the frame is very similar to a table that IKEA sold a few years back.

Moving 18mm sheets without killing myself

Interesting - we've just had new granite kitchen worktops and the chaps had a similar dolly gadget the was somehow hinged in the middle so that when the sheet went in it closed and gripped the granite (the other nifty thing with the granite that had a sink cutout and was thus weakened was a 3m...

    Random- how many sockets?

A total of 8 - 7 doubles (i.e. 14 outlets) and 1 sngle for the Henry dust extractor - all metalclad boxes linked with conduit. Location and number is for convenience - seldom more than 3 items running at the same time (Record Air Cleaner, Henry dust collector and 1 other...

    Buying my first bandsaw

. . . as suggested buy a bandsaw with bigger capacity than you think you need - I bought one las year and immediately regretted not getting a larger model.

    Tear out when drilling holes

I'm in the clamp a waste piece either side of the workpiece camp - especially if using Forstner or spade bits (I've pensioned of the latter in favour of Forstners) - clean holes every time. Likewise if using a hole saw then a piece of waste clamped under the workpiece to run the drill into for...

    Mitre Saw

Hmm - I forgot to mention that I also have an Evolution Compound Mitre Saw (2016 vintage, bought secondhand about 6 weeks ago) - that seems fine.

    Mitre Saw

I've been using an Evolution sliding mitre saw for about 4 years - I'm probably described as prolific maker of wood stuff - performed perfectly. Original blade was fine, I have a couple of others with different teeth counts for different materials. Mine is mounted with the saw bed level and...

    Air cleaner/filter unit.

I have a RecordAC400 (same as Matt on Badger) - but mine is mounted on the ceiling - there's just room for me (at 6'4") to walk underneath it. See pic. It works with a remote (in pocket on the right of the box) to switch on and off, time, etc BUT the beam on the remote isn't that good - you...

Advice on using an MFT to cut full sheets

Ditto - I often get the timber supplier to put his saw through full sheets to get them home, and be able to store them - a bit of thinking on the project and cuts is required. For large sheets I have a pair of saw-horses and custom top that lets me position a guide rail and then cut with a...

Digital Calipers, steel coming up 25th Feb 2021 Aldi

"slipping" may not be the correct description - what I find tends to happen is the the zeroed setting changes (i.e. zero with the jaws closed but the open jaw measurement isn't consistent/accurate)
