Post a photo of the last thing you made

Copper pipe in 15 and 22mm is very useful for making all sorts of stuff with elbow and tee fittings- a cafe near here has coat-hooks made from 15mm and even a stand in the WC to hold the spare toilet rolls - and in the same alternate use scheme of things he has lots of shelving made from...

    Stable Door...

I don't have an answer to your question - but have a comment on hanging the doors . . . from experience! Having fitted a couple of stable doors the first was a nighmare to get the two parts to align etc by hanging the two bits separately - the second time, on a tip from the people that made...

Thanks - I hadn't seen those plans - the hunt is now on fo suitable timber (and the template idea is a good one as I'll doubtless be asked to make more than one)

Looks great - Was that from a published plan? - if so I'd like a copy please . . . and when you say reclaimed timber - reclaimed from what? (I make loads of stuff from pallets (just planing the timber very lightly to smooth it) I've seen loads of Adirondack plans but most look...

    UJK Universal Dovetail Jig

Axminster had a live session on You Tube today (it's now in their list of videos) that was about 90 minutes and showed 6 different dovetail/box joints that were possible with the different "combs" - all the joints that were made, live, were pretty good . . . although I'm not sure how many you...

    Is it me or

Just been to get some treated timber from Travis Perkeins - price was hiked up about 9% this morning compared with website price yesterday . . . checked and yes that's the price today - the only upside is that a) they seem to have masses of stock of timber compared with Jewsons across the...

    Rutlands

Exactly - loads of Rutland stuff is just so obviously Banggood rebadged in a different colour at twice the price - Banggood stuff is often UK stocked and arrives in days (and it's the same coour as Woodpecker :) (y) )

    All That Glitters ............... BBC

No - she just didn't think the format worked (and she has little interest in jewellery - phew! ;) (y)) - Bake Off, Sewing Bee and the Pottery show were of interest to her . . . where the format did work.

    All That Glitters ............... BBC

Not watched it (my wife started and switched off after 10 minutes) - but the title is wrong - the quote is "All that GLISTERS is not gold" - and this is where it came from (appropriately today, The Bard's birthday) “All that glisters is not gold; Often have you heard that told: Many a man...

    Best handle wood?

All the hammers and similar tools I've ever owned have had hickory handles.

    Pink anti-theft tools

Not long ago Poundland had a range of pink tools - I have a pair of pliers and a couple of screwdrivers somewhere, not bad for the money.

Those little Lidl Japanese saws are not what they used to be....

Yep - I bought a couple a few weeks ago to replace an old one I had mislaid - blades are VERY flexy to the point of the saw being useless for anything but the smallest flush cutting of very thin dowels.

    oak or softwood sleepers

Not yet mentioned is a wall constructed with gabions (wire box filled with stones) - at only 18" high it would look great and be very durable. I don't think it's quite as simple as just pouring the stones in but it can't be that complex.

    oak or softwood sleepers

100% agree that blockwork with either render or thin timber cladding will last a lot, lot longer. Previous house we had raised beds with oak sleeper-sized boards - they were "treated" but still rotted badly within about 5 years (replaced with blockwork) BUT to answer the original question, go...

    Sheds

Tiger sheds are well worth a look - we have an excellent one at the allotment : BUT I screwed it all together rather than using the bag of nails that came with it (for strength and if we wanted to take it apart) - also doubled up the felt roof with quality (laid the supplied felt one way and the...

Timber choice for greenhouse and sheds

I'm just completing a garden project - horizontal cladding on battens on a blockwork wall - using Thermowood ("baked softwood") that's about 25% of the price for Western Red Cedar and, they say, will outlast the cedar even with no finish. Have to say it's easy to work with and looks good - at...

    1/ 4" trimmer router question

1/4" router will be fine - probably a 10mm cutter - just do it with several passes with straight bit - given your width/depth I would be doing multiple passes on width and depth. And - take a look at the Katsu palm router/trimmer - it's a Makita copy to all intents and purposes - but at about...

For Sale Record quick release vice.

Having collected the vice (the small one) I bought from Andy and seen the others I can vouch for them being in good used condition and fit for purpose.

Newbie - Display cabinet plywood advice

Plywood is a real jungle with letters delineating the quality - whether knots are visible, how big the knots are, whether there are patched areas etc - the pdf document attached from Lathams is a pretty good reference (and some cool ply projects too) Unless I have absolute confidence in the...
