    Britain's Best Woodworker

Have to say I thought today's semi-final was a bit more realistic in terms of the task/product - something functional and that most people could relate to. The steam bending bit was pretty irrelevant in my view. I can see why Billy went - the idea and basic execution was great - but as...

    What do you collect

    Huh - you're just playing at collecting bikes - about 10 years ago I amassed 16 at the same time . . . . I'm now cured and only have 3 (y)

Sold Table saw - cheap and cheerful workszone

I bought this machine for one project - that was great but I haven't used it again, so it's in as new condition. 210mm x 24T general purpose blade, it has a hose I made for 2-port dust extraction to connect to a Henry or similar vacuum cleaner. Complete with mitre gauge, push stick etc. and...

    Britain's Best Woodworker

I wasn't going to bother watching but succumbed - it was all a bit of nonsense to me in terms of "woodworking" . . . the finely sculpted stuff (Misti & Radha) was vaguely relevant but the remainder with chainsaws/grinders etc were more akin to the "chainsaw challenge" events you see with...

    MR MDF

That quote MUST have been an error at the TP branch? Even before prices sky-rocketed recently that wasn't a price that I ever saw.

    Buying a AirCleaner thing/box

I have the Record AC400 - certainly catches the dust in my single-garage workshop . . . not too sure how good it is with MDF as I try not to use that, or if I do I cut it in the "outdoor workshop" (trestle bench in the garden) Mine is fitted in a cradle attached to the ceiling - the one small...

    MR MDF

Was the £21.60 price per sq metre?? - my local TP is also in the £60 ish bracket

    UK equivalent filler

. . . this is pretty much what the US people call "Bondo" - a putty and activator - works a treat on wood. Quick drying, excellent sanding results

    Energy Saving

Take the readings on the SMART monitor with a large pinch of salt - they are notoriously unreliable. We had one in our previous house for a couple of years and have one at this house since June - I did get a bit concerned when we were allegedly burning gas at the rate of £35,000.00 per hour...

How best to waterproof this please?

Zinc sheet cut and bent to shape to form a liner (if she's worth it :))

Aldi selling Ferrex Belt and Disc Sander

I've had one for a couple of years - can't fault it, even the dust extraction pretty good - it certainly looks just the same as the machines from the usual "badge engineering" suspects (Draper, Clarke/Machine Mart etc)

    Britain's Best Woodworker

Another vote for Joe's chair - very clever, especially in the time. The one thing I would have done which I think would have improved appearance and usability would have been to create a radius corner cut out in the front leg area to give the appearance of separate, wide, "legs" and space for...

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

By throat I meant the distance from the blade to the frame ... i.e. the largest width you can cut on the LH side of the blade (that measurement also affects the rotation of material if you're cutting curves or shapes) - buy the biggest machine that you can afford . . . I have a small Axminster...

Aldi Bandsaw ( new model) coming soon. Buy it or choose other model

Buy the one with the largest throat size (I think that may be the Aldi) @petermillard did a YT 10 Minute Workshop video about them last week or the week before

    Dining table

From experience with a tiled top dining table I would advise against quite strongly . . . wood movement has potential to cause tiles to move/grout to open up . . . and the gaps between the tiles are hard to keep clean - especially with the proximity of food and drink, as well as the possibility...

    This Workshop Idea Sucks

Have to say I find this bloke Katz-Moses a bit up himself . . . along with a number of other YouTube woodworkers.

How to make this moulding - recommendations/advice welcome

Stumpy Nubs on YT has a video out today that covers making mouldings with multiple router passes - I've not watched all of it yet - it may give you and idea or two

    Rail square reviews

Going back to the OP - can you plan in other work/calls to work with the cut material collection? - that would be my preferred option (and I think you'll find @petermillard used his timber merchant for cutting big sheet goods when he was making wardrobes etc - admittedly his supplier was pretty...
