    Do NOT buy this model

It's the time saved walking around the workshop (albeit mine is quite small) switching, in my case, just the shopvac on and off. I use the remote as a sort of poor-man's auto start you get with vac systems like the Festool where you connect the tool/machine to the vac. Have to say I was...

Securing a tracksaw rail to bench dogs

I have a pair of these Bench / Parf dog rail STOPS for Festool and Makita and other Tracksaw rails X2 | eBay - attached to a cheapie MacAlister tracksaw rail - work fine to keep the rail in position on my MFT and slide the workpiece underneath.

    Do NOT buy this model

Hmm, I have a very similar if not the same item purchased from Amazon in May 2020 - the two socket/1 remote version . . . . . only using one unit at the moment connecting a Henry for dust extraction duty - no problem that I'm aware off. Is something else in the workshop/nearby has a similar...

    Coach Screw v Coach Bolt

I'd go for the coach screws with the heads, as you suggest, below the surface of the frame. When I built my bench I used coach screws seated in a hole just a shade larger than the OD of the socket I used to tighten the hex heads - AND put a washer under the head so that the head didn't rip the...

    An old shopping bag?

I too use a tool tote similar to the Stanley - mine is a somewhat obscure brand and was given to me by a customer when I serviced his bicycle (not in part payment I hasten to add!) It's just right for stuff around the house - load it up with tools/fixings/whatever needed in the workshop and...

Buying a machine on eBay sight unseen with pallet delivery

If there's any sort of issue on a sale/purchase then ebay (IME) sides with the buyer pretty much 99.9% of the time. Even if the item is listed for sale as "no returns" the buyer doesn't have to say much in the way of a flimsy excuse for ebay's process to override the "no returns" stipulation...

    Knee pads?

Saxon Blades sell some with a hard outer surface - I have a pair, excellent - with a Velcro strap and plastic clip fixing.

Buying a machine on eBay sight unseen with pallet delivery

All the above - ask before you bid. Given the amount of money, your location and (assuming I found the same item) the machine I'd be inclined to hire a truck and drive there with the cash to collect and pay/or not (you'd get the £80 off the delivery charge to offset your costs)

    Track saws and other stuff.

I would be cautious with these people - I was almost baited and switched on a tool item from them . . . . I realised and managed to cancel the purchase. There also seemed to be some surge pricing going on too.

How do you soften edges of ply/MDF furniture?

If you want such a small change I'd just hand sand the edges - that's what I did with a kitchen table I made from Birch ply (top is 18mm with 4 rails about 15cm wide all round underneath glued and screwed to look as if it's 36mm ply)

    Cheap Timber

I've just picked up a couple of oak bedframes from Freecycle and Freegle - useful source of wood - especially the 3" x 3" posts on the head and foot boards.

Gtech Cordless Combi Drill Bundle any good?

    . . . I think everything from Gtech should be avoided from what I've seen . .

    bosch sander pad

I think Casual DIY on YT had a wheeze for replacement pads - probably in the last 12/18 months IIRC

    Stripping furniture

I too have been on a French polishing course recently (at Peter Sefton's place) - the "gunwash" is "cellulose thinners" and is to neutralise the Paramose stripper after the paint/finish is removed and clean the substrate BTW - Paramose is no longer legally available to "non-professionals" as...

Edge banding that looks like plywood . . .

    Just the ticket - thanks!

Edge banding that looks like plywood . . .

Thanks - I had considered something like that but it's the 1.5 metre length that is potenitally tricky for me.

Edge banding that looks like plywood . . .

Thanks (and to Chrispy) - I'll need about 5 lengths at about 1.5 metres BUT I haven't got the job yet, and that's unlikely before the end of April at best guess (it's a house reno and the chap is well short of decisive!) Out of interest where do you buy it?

Edge banding that looks like plywood . . .

I'm trying to source edge banding to use on a large shelf unit that's going to be made from MDF - BUT needs to look like plywood on the edges (don't ask, it's not my idea!) - I've hunted around but can't find a supplier (Amazon lists a product but it's "currently unavailable" I did consider...

MDF Workbench top - best finish?

Just regular MDF - no point in spending more!

MDF Workbench top - best finish?

To answer the OP question - one of my benches is MDF (but edged all the way round the top) - I just gave it about 4 coats of cheap acrylic matt varnish from Screwfix - it repels any damp or chemicals - and the appearance doesn't matter too much.
