Clamp storage solution for TINY workshop

Similar solution for me I have several lengths of scrap boards screwed to the ceiling and all my trigger clamps are just, err, clamped on - being tall I can just reach up to take one/return one - the 6 1m sash cramps hang on the wall with some 2 x 2 blocks on a backing board, cramps hang for the...

Best finish for new pine garden table

Black is better! - this was the first go at the batten fence at the front of the house - picture taken at Christmas with our seasonal cut-outs (we have Easter & Rembrance Sunday too!)

Best finish for new pine garden table

It's just 19 x 38 treated lath/tile batten - the existing fence was slotted concrete posts and waney edge panels. I fixed vertical battens to the concete posts (SDS drill required!) and to the intermediates on the fence panels. Battens fixed with staples from a battery nail gun, using bits of...

Best finish for new pine garden table

I've now finished the table and bench using the recommended products - the first coat certainly penetrated the timber, I've done one coat of the top so far - it needs a light de-nib and then I'll get another topcoat. I've got the rustic look I'm after - we'll see how it goes with the weather -...

    OSMO PERHAPS?

. . . the slight downside of the OSMO oil is that it takes a while to dry/cure - other oils (IIRC a Fiddes product?) have pretty much the same effect but dry much faster.

    OSMO PERHAPS?

I made a kitchen table from Birch ply a couple of years ago and finished it with 3 coats of OSMO Top Oil - excellent results and still looks as good as new (we have use the specific OSMO cleaner - if that makes a difference?) Using the same stuff on a pine table that hade been sanded back...

Router lift idea - may be of interest to someone?

Yep - works with my 1/4 cheapie router in a home made table - difference is I bought the lift from Banggood for about 6 quid! It's a bit of a fiddle to use and the plunge has to be locked at the height - BUT it makes getting the cutter into position simple. I'm saving up for a proper table...

You’d think postage would be included

    . . . and Hermes/EVRI only insures up to £999 ! - I shan't be risking it :)

    Router cut issue

Direction is probably the issue (although cheap/blunt blades don't help) - search YouTube for some tips and reasons why for direction. Predominantly left to right works for me. If routing an edge (e.g. a roundover as you seem to be doing) - if the cutter is "my side of the wood" then...

Best finish for new pine garden table

That's a bit harsh painting the dog as well - I'm sure it would have preferred a more fetching colour :)

Best finish for new pine garden table

After some research and discussion with very helpful man in Brewers (his advice in the past has always been sound) I've gone for Sadolin 2 shot oil-based treatment - in African Walnut - Classic & Extra

Best finish for new pine garden table

Ah - that's very interesting James, thanks - I shall peruse in detail and look at the product sheets from the manufacturers. The one thing that concerns me is that the major surfaces are horizontal and thus rain doesn't run off in quite the same way as a vertical surface (as in the...

Best finish for new pine garden table

Just wondered what the OP ended up doing - and the results/experience. I'm making what sounds like a similar OUTDOOR table, 2.4 x 1m, using new scaffold boards sanded, joined with biscuits (for location/alignment), waterproof glue, pocket hole screws on the underside and 4 wooden stretchers...

    Cordless lawnmowers any good?

About 80m2 of lawn here - we bought a MOUNTFIELD Princess 34Li Freedom Cordless Lawn Mower [£259 in June 2021 from a dealer in Worcester - next day delivery] Superb machine, worth the slightly higher cost - it cuts the whole lawn on about a a third of a battery charge - and charging is...

    Cupboard shelf attachment

I don't think shallow dados would weaken the sides BUT they'd look awful! I would have one fixed shelf half way up the height house in dados to give stability and then drill rows of holes to use shelf pins to hold the shelves and be able to have different positions. Kreg make a jig for the...

    Birch ply alternative?

While you're lipping the front edge I'd lip the back edge of the shelves as well - quick and simple to give added stability

Either would work - but I'd have a punt round for better prices . . . . . just saying.

    Axminster YouTube Woodworking Demos

I've been watching these on and off since they they were started a couple of years ago - a bit like the curate's egg . . . but on the whole a "good thing" Having been on a couple of courses at Axminster and met Craig, Ben & Jason they are three chaps with quite amazing skills.

    Einhell tools

Over the last year or so I have moved quite a few of my hotch-potch of battery and corded tools to a common Einhell platform - based on experience with one drill/driver I used for a few months, the range available, reviews (but they're not always true), price . . . I have 8 or 9 tools ranging...
