    Rant about screwfix

TP has de-merged TS into a separate business (as they did Wickes a while ago) - not that it makes much difference! . . . and with Wickes - who remembers the little catalogues they used to distribute by the million back in the 1980s when the business first arrived in the UK?

    Rant about screwfix

I did happen to see the "manager" and questioned the wisdom of the change . . . "it's Head Office . . ." but he agreed it was bonkers. Wickes is the viable alternative but the nearest branches are some distance away with added cost and time - although I've found delivery to be brilliant...

    Rant about screwfix

The local B&Q (brother of Screwfix) has just taken out ALL of the checkout-lines and replaced them with self-scan units . . . . makes the purchase of bags of cement/compost etc and paving slabs or sheet goods a challenge. Madness.

    Rant about screwfix

Absolutely - planning for most things isn't difficult (yes, there will be "Oh, I need one of those for this job") - a friend owned a builders merchant/plumbing/DIY store years ago and was amazed at the inefficiency of tradesmen that came to the shop every day as they hadn't planned their work...

    Rant about screwfix

From past experience (albeit in another business sector - business stationery) catalogues are heavily subsidised if not "almost free to produce" for the retailer - being paid for by suppliers of products with "advertising/product placement" - a random look at the last couple of Screwfix and...

I think this might be a scam!

My guess is that's nothig to do with any parcel you've had from Evri . . . . I get these relating to Evri, UPS, DPD etc .... they're just flying a kite with random messages . . . sadly people do bite.

Arched capping boards for fence or gate

I'd give it a go with ripping some treated batten timber - and get it REALLY WET before you try and bend it to fit (and use screws to hold each end down!) - you could also make shallow cross-cuts in the underside to assist flexibility.

Can I add anything to the floor before new carpet

What's the floor made of? - if suspended timber then insulation underneath would make a difference (see Gosforth Handyman on YT for stuff about this) but a major-ish task . . . if concrete then probably not.

    Trim / Palm Router Advice

Ditto on the Katsu - from AIM - and I also bought a couple accessories for it - transparent baseplate and something else I can't remember. It gets used quite a bit - although I have a really cheap fixed-speed trim route direct from China (?Banggood) that's fine - I just keep the most-used...

    Middle of Lidl

Indeed - that's the case for pretty much anything printed on a shop's till/thermal printer (I scan and print the receipts for larger stuff from the likes of B&Q, Screwfix, Toolstation etc just in case)

    Middle of Lidl

I'd suggest it may also be related to ALDI's far more comprehensive (and better quality) array of non-food products . . . . bandsaw anyone? That said, I can see that being rationalised in the scheme of things, but not completely obliterated.

    T-Track recommendations

I bought a load from Banggood - works fine and it's "Woodpecker Tools red" :) - and bought T bolts and knobs at the same time. Rails are built into my main bench which works as fence/infeed/stop block locator for my mitre saw station - and home made router table has T track for fence...

Squeeze To Fit Plastic Bench Dogs for 20mm & 19mm holes

Nifty! . . . and by total chance I've just ordered some 20mm conduit - a 3m length for which I only need 55cm for the job . . . so some dogs to be made (y)

Plunge saw buying recommendations £150-250 budget

YT and @petermillard 10 Minute Workshop has lots of info on track saws from Lidl upwards - very useful stuff. I bought a MacAllister from Screwfix - cheap and cheerful but does the job for me - and sounds like it would for your needs.

    Garage floor levelling

What's the forecast on durability of the new surface?

    Sandpaper

I also bought the Abranet kit that has a pad with a vac hose - I just connect it to my Henry and the dust disappears! The pad also has a soft interlay insert that gives you greater flex on the abrasive surface for mouldings etc.

    Sandpaper

. . . and Abranet which I was introduced to at Peter Sefton's French Polishing course - I really like it, and it lasts for ages if you just shake out the dust and fit back on the sanding pad.

Floor paint or covering for new workshop build

I had the same situation some years ago and painted the floor - don't remember the product(s) but it lasted well in a barn/workshop and was way less dusty than bare concrete. This might help Can You Paint A Screeded Floor? | UK Screeds Blog BUT if you can afford it the "workshop vinyl...
