which compact forward sliding mitre saw as gift for my Dad.

I have the DWS774 and it is absolutely fine - really useful for me as it doesn't extend out at the back and in my workshop I don't have any room behind it. I prefer the shadow line of the 774 to the laser of the 773. The dust collection is pretty rubbish though. I keep meaning to try one of the...

    Rust prevention for over winter

+ 1 for ACF-50. In my uninsulated shed it is a life saver! I reckon I still have to apply it 6-monthly or so though. I've had some success with the VCI pod things in toolboxes and machines with hard to reach or fiddly areas.

    11mm dado over 5m. 40 times.

I wrote a whole thing about doing it with the router table and a load of featherboards and some assistants, however I deleted it as actually I don't think that's a good solution to your situation. I have never used a 'two fence setup' although that looks like the right way to do the job here. As...

Using a cordless drill in a drill press stand

This is only 30 mins from me - shame it's 3 phase and a bit big! https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/228667563338123/

Using a cordless drill in a drill press stand

I probably should invest in a pillar drill.... reccomendations of any with a smallish footprint? I'd prefer to buy an older well made used tool if possible so happy to keep an eye out for one going if people have suggestions. Also happy to buy broken and repair.

    Router bits starting out

I have a bosch 1/4" set which I can't fault. Wasn't expensive and have used it for all sorts. I only really use the 45 degree chamfer, and two roundover bits from the set. The set I have is £39 from screwfix but on amazon you can get a larger set for the same price) Otherwise I buy more...

Using a cordless drill in a drill press stand

The motivation here is to save space - was wondering if I could get away with my combi and one of these instead of a pillar drill for the occasional use. Doesn't sound like it! Thanks for the advice :)

Using a cordless drill in a drill press stand

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck mounting a cordless combi drill in one of these. I appreciate it isn't going to replicate a proper drill press. Also how did you go about squeezing the trigger?

    Rust prevention in tool storage

A little bit more posh but I rate these https://www.shieldtechnology.co.uk/toolguard-vci-10-i38.htm Edit: I should add I have a wooden shed for a workshop so rust is a huge danger for all my stuff. I put one of them inside each toolbox which contains a power tool or hand tools. And use regular...

    Rip before Dimensioning?

Tracksaw makes breaking down slabs really easy. You can get relatively cheap ones on facebook or screwfix do the erbauer one - I don't have personal experience with it though.

3/4" Impact Sockets - Recommendation Request

I really highly reccomend the halfords advanced stuff, they have a lifetime warranty and always come in nice cases etc. I can usually get a 7% off discount code for halfords stuff as well if you need one. (although the trade card discount is better, I just can't share it as it is attached to the...

    Routing query\advice

I use double sided tape on masking tape in situations like this as you are suggesting. I would highly reccomend carpet tape over standard double sided tape though, it is much stronger and wider. I have had experiences before with normal double sided tape where there isn't enough hold and it ends...

    Dining table WIP

Looks really good - I look forwards to seeing how it progresses. Out of interest, what sort of budget do expect the project to come in at.

What do you do with all those scraps of timber?

I wish my scrap pile only had hardwoods on it, I can't even bring myself to throw away the 2" x 8" offcuts of birch plywood! I've resigned myself to accept that whatever space I have I will fill it, regardless of the size. I think that this problem is likely to stick with me for life...

best pound for pound all round router?

Before my dewalt I briefly owned the KATSU 1/4" trim router which is a clone of the makita. I really didn't like it at all, but it gets really good reviews and is rather cheap (£44 currently!). I am prepared to admit that my inexperience with routers at the time and the resultant difficulties I...

best pound for pound all round router?

I have a Dewalt 26204 which I purchased second hand a few years ago. I made a small table for it which is where it is mostly used, and I also use it handheld both with the fixed base and the plunge bases. I really like it, I don't mind about the cord I use it with extraction so it doesn't matter...

Can anyone tell me how this table has been made?

I first got into woodworking because I liked the look of those epoxy resin tables, and wanted to have a go at making one of them. I couldn't understand why woodworking people didn't like them, but I proceeded anyway. I'm pleased I did make some, because it is what got me into woodworking...
